Morris Sweeps SBS LMSC Twinbill 8-20-2011

Philip Morris took another step in his bid for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship by sweeping the pair of 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division races here Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

The pair of wins gives Morris 18 wins this season at South Boston Speedway, a single-season South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division win record. Both wins came with a full field of 26 cars.

Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. won his first pole of the season and finished second to Morris in both 75-lap races. Anderson trailed Morris by .522-second in the first race following a two-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s four caution periods. In the nightcap, Anderson finished 2.024 seconds behind Morris in a 12-lap run to the finish that followed the last of the race’s three caution periods.

Taylor Doggett of Ruther Glen, Va. finished third in both races.

Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Va. finished fourth in the first race with Kyle Waltz of Newport News, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Natalie Sather of Fargo, N.D. finished fourth in the second race with Bowling rounding out the top five finishers.

Morris led the entire distance in both races. The Ruckersville, Va. resident averaged 39.764 mph in the first race, which took 45 min. and 15 seconds to complete. Morris averaged 51.311 mph in the second race, which took 35 min and 4 sec. to complete.

Twenty-six cars started the first Late Model Stock Car race and 23 cars started the second race.

               Rogers Takes First PASS South Super Late Model Win

Clay Rogers of Mooresville, N.C. scored his first career win in the PASS (Pro All Stars Series) South Super Late Model Series here Saturday night in the PASS Super Late Model 150 Presented By The Gazette-Virginian.

Rogers took the lead from Andy Loden of Staley, N.C. with 10 laps to go and held on to edge Loden by .765 second to capture the win.

Jody Lavender of Mooresville, N.C. finished third with Cassius Clark of Farmington, ME and Jordan Anderson of Forest Acres, S.C. rounding out the top five finishers.

Jay Fogleman of Durham, N.C., who was leading the PASS South points standings entering the race, finished ninth.

The race was a good one, with nine lead changes among six drivers. Ten caution periods slowed the race.

Rogers averaged 36.949 mph in the race that took one hour, 37 minutes and 25 seconds to complete.

 

Wallace Takes Win In Legends Race

Darrell Wallace, Jr., a competitor in the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series, won the night’s 25-lap legends race, edging Alex Pacheco by a car length.

Kyle Beattie, Kyle Resco, and Brian Ormette rounded out the top five finishers.

 

 

Next Race At South Boston Speedway

South Boston Speedway’s next event will be the GCR Presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150 racing program on Saturday night, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.

The Sept. 3 GCR Presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150 racing program will be the season’s final points event for the drivers and teams that compete in the track’s four regular NASCAR racing divisions and will determine the 2011 season track division championships.

Five races are scheduled for the GCR Presents Spaulding Equipment Co. Late Model 150 racing program with a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the action.

Along with the 150-lap Late Model Stock Car race, the night’s action will include a race for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Practice will go from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Qualifying time trials will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the first race will start at 7 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 7-12 when accompanied by a paying adult. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.

Monster Trucks Coming To SBS Oct. 1

A big Monster Truck Show will be held at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, October 1, featuring the legendary Grave Digger and Big Foot, as well as popular trucks Toro Loco, Black Stallion, Iron Warrior, Higher Education and Triple X.

Advance tickets priced at $15 each are now on sale at the Speedway office. Fans can also purchase Pit Passes to get up close to the trucks and the track. Fans that purchase a Pit Pass will be able to ride in a Monster Truck and meet the drivers.
