NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

(Aug. 18) — After last weekend’s washout, Langley Speedway resumes its 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign this Saturday, Aug. 20, as Langley Federal Credit Union and Heritage Motor Co. team up to present a nine-race program.
Saturday’s jam-packed feature slate includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (Twin 50s); KeesVacations.com Modifieds (Twin 30s); Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (Twin 25s); Larry King Law Super Trucks (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); and, Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps).
Front gates open and afternoon practice gets under way at 2 p.m. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race festivities begin at 6:55, while the first Super Street race goes green shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the track’s Web site — <www.langley-speedway.com>.

Langley fans, drivers and crew members are reminded to bring backpacks and school supplies this Saturday night as the track holds its “Stuff the Bus” drive.
Track officials hope to fill the Speedway’s own hot rod — the “Boogity-Boogity-Boogity Bus” — with more than 500 backpacks and other school necessities. The donated items will benefit children in Hampton, Newport News and Appalachia.

Despite two weekends of inactivity, C.E. Falk remains fourth in this week’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national top 500. He has lost some ground, however, to the top three in the rankings — Keith Rocco, Philip Morris and Lee Pulliam. Meanwhile, the fifth-ranked driver, Midwestern dirt Late Model ace Bill Leighton Jr., has closed to within 38 points of Falk.
Each driver’s 18 best finishes are taken into account when the final national and state standings are tabulated. The NASCAR points window closes on Sept. 18.
Greg Edwards and Danny Edwards Jr. are Langley’s other representatives in the top 100, checking in at 23rd and 70th, respectively.
In the latest Virginia state standings, Falk continues to hold down the third spot, behind Morris and Pulliam. Greg Edwards is sixth and Danny Edwards Jr. is 11th.

Falk isn’t the only Langley driver engaged a national championship hunt. Through the Finalist Program, NASCAR also recognizes top performers in the support divisions at its weekly tracks.
In Division II of the Finalist Program, Langley Modified points leader Shawn Balluzzo is sixth, while Cameron Patrick, Chris Johnson and Robbie Babb are 16th, 18th and 37th, in that order.
The Super Trucks are Langley’s Division V class. Tommy Nixon is the track’s highest-ranked representative, at 39th. Robbie Davis (61st), Troy Turnage (72nd), Jonathan Mullett (94th) and Chase McAdams (98th) also hold spots in the top 100.

In the Super Street division, Ritchie German has opened a 30-point margin over Ryan Nester in the battle for the 2011 title, 338-308. Jamie Sample is third in the current standings, 18 behind Nester.

Landon Florian will look to get back on the winning track in Saturday’s UCAR 25-lapper. Dropped to the outside of Row 4 by the pre-race inversion on Aug. 6, Florian charged back toward the front, but came up three lengths short at the checkers as Chris Hildebrand nabbed his second win.
Florian, a six-time race winner this season, leads Sammy Gaita by 34 points in the UCAR standings, 356-322. Matt Morgan is third, 26 behind Gaita and just six ahead of Hildebrand.

Doug Warren holds a 14-point lead over Casey Sipe in the Pro Six rundown, 376-362. After a couple of shaky outings, Warren has righted the ship, winning the last two times out.

Twin 50s for the Late Models top the slate when NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 27, with Bayport Credit Union Night. The Pepsi Grand Stocks, Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends, UCARs and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts round out the evening’s lineup.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour invades Langley for a Labor Day weekend 150-lapper, presented by Newport News Shipbuilding. Tim Brown captured last season’s Southern Mod event at Langley, halting his 12-race winless streak in the series.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or consult the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.
