South Boston Speedway News
American National presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night at SoBo Saturday features multiple key points races

South Boston, Va --

When the green flag waves for the start of the American National presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night Saturday at South Boston Speedway, there will be several key points races that fans and competitors will be focused on.

While former South Boston Speedway champion Philip Morris, a three-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion, appears untouchable in the standings at America’s Hometown Track, he is in the thick of title races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national crown and the Virginia state championship.

Morris and his fellow NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will battle it out in a pair of 75-lap races, which will highlight the American National presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night Saturday.

Morris is currently third in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship standings. He trails defending champion Keith Rocco by 39 points and he is 14 points behind second-place Lee Pulliam.

While Morris, who has claimed 14 wins at South Boston Speedway this season, trails Pulliam in the national title standings, he leads the way in the battle for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Virginia state championship. Morris enters the weekend with a four-point lead over Pulliam in the state standings.

A total of six races are slated for competition Saturday and there will also be a lot of attention focused on twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division.

Heading into the two Limited Sportsman Division events Saturday night, only one point separates leader Danny Willis Jr. and second-place Brian Pembelton in the title chase. Bobby McCarty, who has been on a tear of late is up to third in the standings and defending division champion Justin Snow is fourth and is only 19 points behind McCarty.

Five events were originally scheduled for the American National presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night racing program Saturday night. The rainout of last weekend’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action, however, set the stage for six races to be waged on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Rain checks from last weekend’s racing action will be honored at this weekend’s event only. Pit passes from last weekend will also be honored for all divisions that did not complete events.

Other events scheduled Saturday night at as part of the American National presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night include action for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Joe Allred leads the way in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. He is 31 points ahead of second-place Trey Crews. Stuart Crews is third in the standings and is only one point ahead of Randy Hupp.

Darryl Lacks owns an 11-point lead over Daryl Gwynn in the Southern Vintage Modifieds standings, while Donnie Lacks is in third place and is only six points behind Gwynn.

Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
