at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA
(Aug. 11) — Continuing his pursuit of the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national title, C.E. Falk goes for his third straight doubleheader sweep this Saturday, Aug. 13, when the Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars return to action at Langley Speedway in a pair of 50-lappers, the headlining events of Langley Federal Credit Union/Shriners Night
In addition to the Late Model Twins, Saturday’s race lineup includes: Pepsi Grand Stocks (40 laps); Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends (25 laps); Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps); and, Enduros (50 laps).
Front gates open and afternoon practice rounds get under way at 2 p.m. After a 4:15 drivers meeting, time trials begin at 4:30. Pre-race festivities commence at 6:55 and the Champ Karts lead off the evening’s feature slate shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.

On the strength of an unbeaten month of July at Langley, highlighted by his second Hampton Heat 200 victory, Falk earned a second-place ranking in the August edition of NASCAR’s Hunter Index. Defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champ Keith Rocco topped the monthly poll.
The Hunter Index, named for the late Jim Hunter, a longtime member of NASCAR’s administrative team and an avid supporter of local short track racing, is voted on by a 12-member panel and recognizes outstanding drivers in NASCAR’s top weekly divisions and regional touring series.

While Falk has monopolized Langley’s Victory Lane of late, Greg Edwards is doing his best to remain in the hunt for the 2011 Late Model championship. Heading into this Saturday’s Twins, Edwards trails Falk by 20 points, 640-620, in the division standings — well within striking distance, should the leader happen to stumble.

Like Falk, Ricky Derrick also enjoys a 20-point margin in the current Grand Stock rundown, 336-316. With his runner-up finish on July 30, Mark Claar has edged ahead of Rodney Boyd for second place in the standings. Boyd slipped to third, two behind Claar.

Despite a last-lap disappointment in the national qualifying race on July 30, Brad Hancock still holds a commanding 30-point lead, 370-340, in the current INEX Legends standings. Steve Keesee, who won the July 30 event, is second, just two points ahead of Spencer Saunders.

In the Champ Kart division, Tommy Sweeney clings to a slim, two-point margin over Chris O’Brien, 232-230. Former points leader Daniel Millard is third, eight behind Sweeney, and will be looking to rebound from rough outings the last two times out.

Three-time race winner Mike Ganoe enters Saturday’s Enduro race with a two-point lead, 196-194, over his chief adversary, Danny Harrell. UCAR regular Bill Eaker, doing double-duty in the Enduro division this season, is 14 points out of the top spot, in third.

Doubleheaders for the KeesVacations.com Modifieds (Twin 30s) and the Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (Twin 25s) top the bill when NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 20. The Larry King Law Super Trucks, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs and Standard Welding Pro Sixes round out the evening’s feature card.
Also, with the start of a new school year fast approaching, fans, drivers and crew members are being asked to help “Stuff the Bus” on Aug. 20. Track officials hope to fill the Speedway’s unique hot rod — the “Boogity-Boogity-Boogity Bus” — with more than 500 backpacks and other school supplies. Donations will benefit kids in Hampton, Newport News and Appalachia.
