NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA
Preview: Three twinbills anchor 9-race lineup
Thursday, August 4, 2011

HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 4) — Doubleheaders for the KeesVacations.com Modifieds, Larry King Law Super Trucks and the Virginia Mini Cups top a huge nine-race slate this Saturday, Aug. 6, as Langley Speedway continues its 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Quaker Steak & Lube Night.
Saturday’s crowded feature lineup includes: Modifieds (Twin 25s); Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (40 laps); Super Trucks (Twin 20s); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps); and, the Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association (Twin 15s).
Front gates open at 2 p.m., just as afternoon practice gets under way. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55 and the first Mini Cup race goes green shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the track’s Web site — <www.langley-speedway.com>.

Defending Mod champ Shawn Balluzzo heads into this weekend’s Twin 25s with a 46-point lead over Chris Johnson in the current division standings. Cameron Patrick ranks third, 22 down to Johnson.
For weeks, Balluzzo has vigorously touted the competitiveness of the Modified class. And, the on-track results seem to back him up. Through 12 events, the division has produced five different race winners — Balluzzo, Patrick, Mike Rudy, Anthony Kincaid and Mark Slye, who swept last Saturday’s Twins.

In the Super Street division, two-time titlist Randy Sample enters Saturday’s 40-lapper on a two-race winning streak. Meanwhile, Ritchie German has taken advantage of two straight sixth-place runs by Ryan Nester to open a 26-point lead in the standings. Sean Calway is 12 behind Nester, in third. Sample, who has won three of the four races that he has started, is eighth.

Five-time race winner Tommy Nixon holds a 28-point lead over 2010 champ Robbie Davis in the current Super Truck standings. Third-place Troy Turnage trails Davis by six.
• • •
Landon Florian guns for his seventh win in eight races when the UCARs hit the track on Saturday evening. He leads Sammy Gaita by 26 points in the latest rankings.
• • •
Doug Warren snapped a three-race winless streak in the last Pro Six feature, on July 23. With his fourth victory, he widened his advantage in the points rundown to 10 over Casey Sipe.

The Virginia Mini Cups make their first Langley appearance of the season this weekend. Wayne Falls leads the series standings, ahead of Kevin Berkstresser, Ryan Adams, Scott Roach and Jennifer Chitwood. The series is slated for a return trip to the Hampton speedplant in October.

Langley Late Model leader C.E. Falk held onto the fourth spot in this week’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Top 500 as the battle for the 2011 championship heads into its stretch run.
Defending champ Keith Rocco notched his 20th win of the season last weekend at Waterford (Conn.) Speedbowl to retain the lead. Lee Pulliam won at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway and moved into second, leapfrogging Philip Morris, who saw a promising run ruined only three laps from the end of the first of last Saturday’s Twin 75s at Langley. Morris sat out the second Late Model feature.
Other Langley regulars in the upper half of the national standings include: Greg Edwards (16th), Danny Edwards Jr. (54th), Doug Godsey (100th), Dean Shiflett (112th), Jeff Shiflett (115th), Terry Carroll (116th), Mark Wertz (130th), Paul Debolt (135th), Wes Falk (183rd), Shayne Lockhart (204th), Brandon Gdovic (242nd) and Casey Wyatt (243rd).
In the Virginia state rankings, Morris continues to lead. Falk edged past Pulliam for second, as Pulliam’s out-of-state win earned him no points toward the Virginia title. Greg Edwards is sixth in the rundown, while Danny Edwards Jr. moved up to ninth. Godsey and Dean Shiflett are 18th and 19th, respectively.

The Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars return to action on Saturday, Aug. 13, as Langley Speedway hosts Langley Federal Credit Union Shriners’ Night. The Pepsi Grand Stocks, Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts and Enduros round out the feature lineup.
