Taylor Doggett Makes Three Winners in Three Races at OCS
Jul 11, 2011 - updated Jul 11th, 2011 11:31am
Web posted by Ken Childs

Rougemont, NC. --

Two weeks ago, it seemed to all be going right for Taylor Doggett. He was the fastest in practice and seemed to have the pole all but tied up. The night would go wrong quickly, having his time disallowed because of an illegal spring and then wrecking on Lap 1 while trying to work his way through the field that he should have started ahead of.  Saturday night, there were no such issues.

Doggett set the fast time by almost a full tenth of a second over Terry Dease, but it was Dease who would pull out to the early lead.  Dease never could get the Ruther Glen, VA driver out of his mirror, having to hold off attack after attack by Doggett, and on Lap 36, Doggett would make his move, slipping by the Oxford, NC driver.

A mid-race caution would rerack the field, and Dease would pounce on the restart, using the high groove to take the lead back from Doggett, and then repeatedly hold off charges until Lap 54, when Doggett would make it back around the 2010 LMSC champion.  Dease would give chase, repeatedly looking to the rookie’s inside, but it would be to no avail.  Taylor Doggett would come across the finish line first, making him the third winner in three races.  Dease would hold off a hard-charging Craig Moore for second, while Moore would settle for third. Daryl Carver scores his best finish of the season in fourth, while Andrew Perry finishes fifth.

In Limited Sportsman, Dennis Sargent would set the fast time in qualifying, but would fall behind point leader Daniel Schadt on the first lap. Schadt would lead the field for a clean and green first 23 laps.  A series of cautions and restarts would let Sargent take the lead back, only to see Donald Brace slip by on the final restart on Lap 34. Brace would hold off a late charge by Schadt for the lead, while Sargent would hold off an equally strong charge for third. At the checkered flag, Donald Brace would come across first, with Schadt in his tracks. Sargent held onto third, with Keith Edwards taking fourth and Bill Barber rounding out the top five.

Much like their larger brethren, the Pure Stock division has seen a new winner in each of their three races. Saturday night, Matt Grimes would start on the pole for the third time in third race, but for the second time this season he’d see someone else finish ahead of him.   Grimes would lead from the pole, and spent the first half of the race fighting back repeated Milam Motorsports attacks by Jack Milam and Daniel Moss.   The caution would fly just once, for James Peery’s spin, but that would be all Moss would need to get by Grimes. Moss led the second half of the race without anyone putting a bit of pressure on him, and would win his first ever race at Orange County Speedway. Matt Grimes would retain his lead by finishing second, and Jack Milam came home third.

In Street Stocks, AJ Lang dominated early, but a Justin Brown pass mid-race is all that Brown needed to finish first. Brown would fail post-race tech, giving Gary Ledbetter the win. Tommy Raino would get credit for second, with Jamie Ruddock finishing third.  Chris Henderson continues his Super Mini-Truck domination, winning his third in a row ahead of Toney Henderson and Wesley Martin.

Luke Demis would lead wire to wire in Legends racing, beating former Late Model driver Keven Wood and Jake Spillers, while Tate Fogleman dominated the Bandolero event.  In Southern Ground Pounders, Cory Purnell slipped past Cory Agee mid-race and held on for his first win of 2011.

Racing returns to the high banks of Orange County Speedway this Saturday night with another full night of action.  Terry Dease, Joey Throckmorton and the Late Model Selects will be on the track for 75 laps, with Limited Sportsman, Pure stock, Southern Ground Pounders, Street Stocks and Super Mini Trucks all in action as well.  Tickets are just $10 for adults, with students, fire and police personnel, university faculty & staff and seniors just $8 with valid ID.
