Falk seeks Hampton Heat repeat

Hampton Va. --

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA
Preview: Falk seeks Hampton Heat repeat
Thursday, July 7, 2011

HAMPTON, Va. (July 7) — The Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars return to action this Saturday, July 9, in their biggest race of the season as Langley Speedway plays host to the Fourth Annual Hampton Heat 200.
In addition to the 200, Saturday’s lineup includes: Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (50 laps); Larry King Law Super Trucks (30 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); and, Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps).
Front gates open at 2 p.m., just in time for fans to catch the last half-hour of LMSC practice. Support division practice rounds get under way at 2:30. Times trials are slated for 4:15, followed by an autograph session at 6:15. Pre-race festivities get under way at 6:45 and the UCARs lead off the evening’s feature slate shortly after 7. The Hampton Heat 200, the fourth event on a five-race schedule, should go green around 9 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the track’s Web site — <www.langley-speedway.com>.

Two-time track champ, defending Hampton Heat 200 race winner and current Late Model points leader C.E. Falk warmed up for this Saturday’s $10,000-to-win event by competing in last Friday’s 200-lapper at South Boston Speedway.
Lee Pulliam won the race, beating Eddie Johnson to the checkers. Falk was seventh at the end and, while he certainly would’ve liked to have won, the outing may be a good omen for him. Falk also finished seventh in last season’s Fourth of July Weekend 200 at SoBo, a week before his Hampton Heat 200 victory.
• • •
Falk’s seventh-place result at SoBo allowed him to maintain the fourth spot in the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Top 500.
Connecticut’s Keith Rocco, the defending national champ, swept to three wins in three nights last Thursday-Saturday and regained the top spot. Pulliam is second, while Philip Morris, last week’s leader, slipped to third. After leading over half of the SoBo event, engine woes doomed Morris to a 21st-place finish.
Other Langley regulars in the national rankings include: Greg Edwards (41st), Danny Edwards Jr. (79th), Paul Debolt (89th), Mark Wertz (117th), Dean Shiflett (121st), Doug Godsey (145th), Jeff Shiflett (182nd), Wes Falk (229th), Kyle Waltz (273rd), Matt Waltz (331st), Shayne Lockhart (352nd), Renno Marchetti IV (357th), Mitch Sarvis (468th) and Casey Wyatt (478th).
In the Virginia state standings, Pulliam leapfrogged Morris to take over the lead, while Falk held steady in the third position. The top three enjoy a healthy advantage over fourth-place Frank Deiny Jr. Greg Edwards is ninth in the state rundown, while Danny Edwards Jr. and Debolt check in at 16th and 18th, respectively.

Saturday’s Hampton Heat 200 will be run in two segments, separated by a halfway break. During the intermission, crews will be able to change tires, add fuel and make any other adjustments that they’d make on a regular pit stop.
Halftime adjustments were key in the 2008 and 2009 editions of the Hampton Heat 200 as Nick Smith ('08) and Woody Howard ('09) both made their winning passes during the final 100 laps.
Falk turned that trend on its ear in last year’s event. Starting from the outside of Row 1, he swiped the lead from pole-sitter Debolt on lap 13 and kept his machine out front the rest of the way.
• • •
Greg Edwards will try to deliver a third Hampton Heat 200 victory for car owner James Long on Saturday night. Long fielded the winning entries for Smith and Howard in the first two 200s. Going for the “three-peat” for Long last year, Edwards had the #21 Chevy up to second place when he was felled by mechanical problems on lap 143.
• • •
Ritchie German goes for his fourth straight win in Saturday’s Super Street 50-lapper. He holds a 14-point edge over Ryan Nester in the division standings.
• • •
Three-time race winner Tommy Nixon enjoys a 24-point lead over Robbie Davis and Troy Turnage in the Super Truck rundown. Chase McAdams was the winner the last time out, rumbling from seventh to first in the opening eight laps of the race.
• • •
In the UCAR standings, Landon Florian is 20 points ahead of Sammy Gaita and rookie contender Landon Abbott. Florian had his seven-race winning streak, which dated back to last year, snapped in the division’s last feature on June 25.
• • •
After seeing Doug Warren win the season’s first three Pro Six events, Casey Sipe has put together a two-race winning streak of his own and has taken a four-point lead over Warren in the current standings.
• • •
Tomorrow night, on Hampton Heat 200 Eve, Langley Speedway will hold a meet-and-greet featuring drivers (and their cars) and track officials at the Peninsula Town Center, located just off I-64 on Mercury Blvd. in Hampton.
The event is slated for 6-9 p.m. Drivers and officials will be available to the media during the first hour of the gathering. An autograph session gets under way at 7, while the soiree concludes with music from 8-9 p.m.
• • •
The KeesVacations.com Modifieds return to the spotlight when NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 16. The evening’s feature lineup also includes Pepsi Grand Stocks, Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts and Enduros.
• • •
A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
