South Boston, Va --

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will be idle this weekend, but the roar of the engines from the region’s best NASCAR Whelen All American Series competitors will be heard again on Saturday, July 16.

America’s Hometown Track will return to action on Saturday, July 16, for the running of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model 150. A total of five races are scheduled for the evening with the first set to get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Highlighting the night of racing action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval will be a 150-lap shootout for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Also scheduled as part of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model 150 will be action for the Limited Sportsman Division, a pair of races for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and an event for the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Philip Morris, an 11-time winner this season at South Boston Speedway and a three-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, will head into the July 16 event with a commanding 115-point cushion over second-place Natalie Sather in the chase for the 2011 track title.

Josh Oakley is third in the standings and is only 12 points ahead of fourth-place Dennis Holdren. Two-time defending champion Justin Johnson is fifth in the title chase and is 14 points behind Holdren.

The battle for the championship in the Limited Sportsman Division could not be any closer as Danny Willis Jr. and Brian Pembelton are currently deadlocked atop the standings. Defending champion Justin Snow is third and is only seven points ahead of fourth-place Bobby McCarty, who scored his first victory of 2011 last weekend.

Trey Crews sports a 14 point advantage over Joe Allred in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings heading into the twin races on July 16. Randy Hupp is third, while Stuart Crews is fourth and is only two points ahead of fifth-place Jake Brown.

Darryl Lacks owns a slim one-point lead over Daryl Gwynn in the Southern Vintage Modified standings, while Donnie Lacks sits in third place.

Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on July 16. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information visit the track's website or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
