Heavy rain seemed to be the order of the day Saturday afternoon at Hickory Motor Speedway as a very strong storm interrupted the afternoon practice. After a couple of hours of steady rain, the storm finally gave way to allow racing to continue. All classes were lined up in order of points in lieu of qualifying.
The Limited Late Models were the 2nd show of the night with Annabeth Barnes starting in second. She quickly jumped out to the lead on the first lap and never looked back. She raced to the checkered flag in the feature with only one caution. Pietro Fittipaldi came in 3rd, followed by Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City after having to start last in the race. Congratulations to Annabeth and her team and family on this long awaited victory.
Jesse LeFevers started on the pole for the Late Model Division and jumped out to an early lead. It was a hard fought battle the entire race with Kyle Moon coming home in second, followed by Austin McDaniel in third and Jesse LeFevers in fifth. Brad Cox finished 7th for the night.
It was another great night of racing at Kingsport Speedway with Nate Monteith finishing 2nd followed by Lee Tissot in 3rd. Nate is currently leading the points at Kingsport with Lee close behind in 2nd.
If you haven’t been tracking the national points in the Whelen All American series, you should start keeping an eye on it. We have several local drivers ranked in the top numbers. Currently, Nate Monteith is in 6th, Lee Tissot 12th, Jesse LeFevers 16th, Kyle Moon 17th and Austin McDaniel 32nd.
