After months of waiting, the Orange County Speedway local racing series took to the high banks in Rougemont, NC for their season opener. After waiting for a brief shower to pass through, the green flag flew for 185 laps of racing.

The OCS Late Model Stock and OCS Limited Sportsman divisions have merged into one single class, called Late Model Select. In practice for the first LMS race, it was clear that Joey Throckmorton and Terry Dease were the cars to beat. Throckmorton would set the fast qualifying time, with former Limited Sportsman champion Brian Cole joining him in Row 1. Dease could only manage a fifth place qualifying position.

Early on, Dease would move his way forward, getting to third before a Lap 5 caution, then moving past Cole to second on Lap 7, riding there until a Lap 23 caution for a Tracey Chambers spin re-racked the field. Dease took advantage of the generous OCS high line, taking the lead for three laps until another caution.

Throckmorton and Dease would trade the lead back and forth until Dease took the point for good on Lap 32. Throckmorton would give chase until spinning in Turn 2 on Lap 60. The spin would put Throckmorton toward the rear of the field, and he would have to settle for a ninth place finish.

With Throckmorton out of the picture, Terry Dease would cruise to a win in the first race of 2011. Brian Cole would rally from mid-pack to finish second, holding back Ricky Jones, Daryl Carver and Tracey Chambers, who would finish third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

With the Limited Sportsman division converted to Late Model Select, the former OCS Grand Stock division has been converted to a new Limited Sportsman division. Contenders in 2010, Jerry Hinesley and Donald Brace would sit on the front row, with former Grand Stock drivers Daniel Schadt, Dennis Sargent and Keith Edwards starting right behind them.

It was clear early that Brace and Hinesley would be the two men to beat. Jerry Hinesley would lead the first 22 laps of the event, keeping Brace behind him despite repeated attempts to get by on the inside. A Lap 22 caution for Keith Edwards spinning in Turn 2 would put Brace to the outside of Hinesley, and on the restart Brace would pounce, taking the lead and holding Hinesley back for the final 13 laps. Brace would fail post-race tech, though, giving the win to Hinesley. Daniel Schadt, Dennis Sargent Jr., Keith Edwards and Melvin Langley would round out the top five.

Matt Grimes and Chase Sandefur set the fast qualifying times in Pure Stock action. Grimes would lead from wire to wire, fighting off repeated attacks by teammate Les Aliff for the lead. Aliff would fall back early, working his way through the field to get as far as second. Mike Conner and Sandefur would do battle for third, with Conner besting Sandefur off Turn 4 on the final lap for the final podium position.

In Street Stocks, Chet Christman would fight off a late charge from Gary Ledbetter to win from the pole, with Jake Gray finishing third. Glenn Chriscoe Jr. crossed the line first in Super Mini Truck action, but refused a protest by Chris Henderson and was subsequently disqualified, giving Chris Henderson the win and Toney Henderson second place.

Racing returns to the famed 3/8 mile with a full night of racing for the Orange County Speedway regulars. In action will be Late Model Selects for 75 laps, with Limited Sportsman, Pure Stock, Street Stock, Super Mini Trucks, Legends, Bandoleros and the Southern Ground Pounders all on the track as well.
