South Boston, Va…….For three weeks South Boston Speedway has offered a bounty for any driver that could snap Philip Morris’ lengthy win streak.

Saturday night, former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va. broke Morris’ streak and collected the extra cash.

Sellers won Saturday night’s CenturyLink Late Model 150 at South Boston Speedway, snapping Morris’ record win streak at nine races in a row. The win, Sellers’ second of the season at South Boston Speedway, was worth $5,000. His winnings included a $2,000 bounty that track officials had placed on Morris for this event.

Natalie Sather of Fargo, N.D. finished second, trailing Sellers by .447-second after a 17-lap green flag run to the finish that followed the last of the race’s four caution periods.

Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. finished third with Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. and Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. rounding out the top five finishers in the 150-lap race.

The race featured three lead changes between Sellers and Morris, with Sellers leading twice for a total of 59 laps. He took the lead for good on lap 121, right after the race’s final restart.

Morris was leading on the restart but slowed suddenly when the right front tire on his car started going flat, allowing several cars to dart past him. The tire went flat, causing Morris to spin his car on lap 131.

He pitted during the ensuing caution period so that his crew could change the tire and was forced to pit again with less than 10 laps to go. Morris re-entered the race to complete the last few laps and was credited with an eighth-place finish, three laps down to Sellers.

Sellers averaged 68.170 mph in the race that was slowed by four cautions that consumed 24 laps.

            Willis Sweeps Limited Sportsman Twinbill

Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. had a big night, sweeping both of the night’s pair of 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races. The pair of wins gives him three victories of the season and ties him with Brian Pembelton and Justin Snow, who also have three wins here this season.

In the first 50-lap race, Willis took the lead from pole winner Joey Throckmorton of South Boston, Va. on the 17th lap and held off Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. by .553 second in a 14-lap green-flag sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s four caution periods.

Pembelton, of Amelia, Va., finished third with Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, Va. and Blake Stallings of Danville, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

In the nightcap, Willis drove away from Pembelton in a 21-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s two caution periods to secure the win. Pembelton trailed by .388 second at the finish.

Aaron Burnett of Debary, Fla., McCarty and defending division champion Justin Snow of Danville, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Crews Wins Pure Stock Race

Trey Crews of Halifax, Va. started on the pole and led the entire distance to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. The win was the second of the season for Crews, who drives an entry out of the Halifax County (Va.) Public Schools Motorsports Academy stable.

Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va., Chris Crosby of Raleigh, N.C., Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va. and Daniel Crews of Long Island, Va. completed the top five finishers.

Gwynn Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Daryl Gwynn of Reidsville, N.C. took the lead from pole winner Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. with three laps to go and held on to win the 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

The win was the third in a row for Gwynn.

Darryl Lacks finished second with Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va. finishing third.
