$2,000 bounty on national title leader Philip Morris in CenturyLink Late Model 150 Saturday at SoBo

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Nine straight victories at South Boston Speedway have heaped a ton of attention on Philip Morris.

The three-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion will be back in action at America’s Hometown Track Saturday night for the running of the CenturyLink Late Model 150 NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing program. The first of five races Saturday night will get cranked up at 7 p.m.

Morris will enter the featured event of Saturday’s racing action as the track’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series points leader. He will also enter the evening as the leader in the chase for the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship.

In addition, Morris will have a $2,000 bounty on him when the green flag waves for the CenturyLink Late Model 150. The bounty began a few weeks ago at $500, but has increased in $500 increments with each additional victory notched by Morris.

The total first-place prize for any driver who can defeat Morris this weekend would be $5,000. Morris must still be competing at the end of the race for a driver to claim the bounty and Morris himself can also claim the bounty if he elects to start from the rear of the field and attempt to work his way to the front to score a 10th consecutive win.

On the strength of two victories last weekend in twin 75-lap races, Morris vaulted in front of defending national champion Keith Rocco by a mere two points in the most recent NASCAR Whelen All American Series national title standings.

Lee Pulliam, who finished second to Morris in both events last weekend at South Boston Speedway, is currently third in the national title chase.

South Boston Speedway regulars are abundant in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship standings as Frank Deiny Jr. is currently sixth in the standings and two-time defending South Boston Speedway champion Justin Johnson is eighth.

Morris, who has won every event in 2011 with the exception of the season-opening event, owns a commanding 103-point cushion over Johnson in the chase for the 2011 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division championship.

Saturday’s CenturyLink Late Model 150 racing program will also feature twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division and events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Brian Pembelton will enter the crucial two-night race for the Limited Sportsman Division as the points leader after scoring another victory last weekend. Pembelton leads Danny Willis Jr. by 16 points and defending Limited Sportsman champion Justin Snow by 18 points.

In the Pure Stock Division standings, Joe Allred has reeled off three straight triumphs and owns a 21-point edge over Trey Crews. Randy Hupp is third in the standings and is only eight points behind Crews.

Darryl Lacks will enter Saturday’s race for the Southern Vintage Modifieds with an eight-point lead over Daryl Gwynn.

Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information visit the track's website or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
