Storm Back In Victory Lane at ODS…….

Manassas, VA. --

It’s been quite some time since former track champion Dustin Storm had visited victory lane, but he didn’t have a hard time finding it Saturday night as he dominated the 75 lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car feature. Storm started on the pole and led flag-to-flag, taking the checkers with ease enroute the win. After crashing out early in the opener (and finishing 16th out of 19 cars), the win was just what the 2001 Late Model champion needed to thrust himself back in contention for a second championship. Now just 16 points out of the lead, Storm is now a force to be reckoned with. Another strong performance was turned in by young Davey Callihan, another one of those drivers that needed a good finish after bad start in the opener. Callihan was involved in an early crash two weeks ago, and wound up finishing 15, but a second place effort by the 3rd generation driver also put him back in contention. Rounding out the top 5 were David Polenz, Brandon Brown, and Doug Liberman. Adam Brenner, who took home the win in the opener, started from the 8th spot and came home 8th. He still maintains the point lead in the division by Liberman by 3 points.

Rette Causey returned to the Old Dominion Speedway after a dominating 2010 season and took home the win in the 30 lap Austin / INEX Legends feature. Causey took over the top spot on lap 9 and held off his protégé young Brenden Queen, the 13-year old who made his first ODS start. Finishing third was Trevor Collins, another youngster (12 years old) in the Legends division. Fourth place went to Cody Scott, followed by Greg Rittenhouse. Collins and Scott currently sit atop the Legends division point standings, tied at 84 points.

Bryan Fox and Bert Brasz battled for the final 10 circuits, trading paint and tire marks, with Fox coming out on top in the Capital Remodeling 20 lap UCAR feature. The had the crowd on their feet as they battled for the top spot. Neither driver gave an inch, but both were sideways on more than one occasion. At the end, Fox would emerge as the winner by less than a car length. Brasz would have to settle for 2nd, while 2-time feature winner Nathan Brasz, Jonathan Flanagan, and Craig Oglevee rounded out the top 5.

Veteran Mike Carte took the lead from Pete Green late in the event and held off Bobby Able for his first win in 2011 in the Mini Modified 25 lap event. Todd Johnston, Joe Riley, and Green rounded out the top 5.

Other racing action for the night included a 25 lap Street Stock feature, easily won by Mark Averi. Gerald Frybarger picked up his first ever ODS feature win in the 20 lap SRL Mini Cup feature. And James Loving took home the checkers in the 30 lap Pure Stock event. Brian Smith, Mike Ganoe, Roger Davis, and Jaime Groome rounded out the top 5.

Next Saturday night is the first extra distance event for the Late Models. The Tornadoes 100, powered by On-The-Go Stores is putting up an additional $2000.00 to the winner of the event, with an additional $1000.00 to the second place finisher. Also on the schedule is a 20 lap event for the Capital Remodeling UCAR’s, a 30 lap event for the Austin / INEX Legends, 25 laps for the Va. Sprint Series, 20 laps for the Sign Shop Bandoleros, and a 30 lap feature for the Va. Mini Cup Racing Association. Practice begins at 2PM, with qualifying set for 5PM. Racing action takes the green at 7PM.
