BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The next racing action at Volunteer Speedway will be on Friday, May 6 as “The Gap” hosts Night 1 of “Border Wars - Mountain Mayhem Shootout” for Super Late Models paying $5,000-to-win.

Night 2 (Saturday, May 7) of Border Wars - Mountain Mayhem Shootout will be just up Interstate 81 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va. With the back-to-back nights of racing at Volunteer and Wythe, each Super Late Model event pays $5,000-to-win. If the same driver can win both races they will earn a $1,500 bonus, making it a possible $11,500 in winnings.

A tentative list of racers set to tackle the high banks at Volunteer Speeday on Friday, May 6 include grandsons of NASCAR multi-team owner Richard Childress – Austin Dillon (currently sixth in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points) and Ty Dillon (current Automobile Racing Club of America points leader and winner three weeks ago at Talladega Superspeedway) of Lewisville, N.C.; Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn.; Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C.; Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C.; Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga.; Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga.; Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C.; Johnny Pursley of Clover, S.C.; Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C.; Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., plus many more.

Heading the list of East Tennessee drivers expected is five-time Volunteer Speedway track champion Vic Hill of Morristown, Knoxville’s Mark Douglas, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Jeff Maupin of Greeneville, Bristol’s Kerry Jones, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Powell’s Mark Vineyard, Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Steve Smith of Powell, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, along with others.

Besides the Super Late Models, also racing Friday, May 6 at Volunteer Speedway will be the Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Pro (Crate) Late Model, "Gunslingers of Kingsport" Hobby Stock, and Road Warrior classes.

Pit gate will open Friday, May 6 at 3 p.m. and grandstands at 4:30 p.m. Drivers' meeting at 6:30 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action getting green flag around 8 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission on Friday, May 6 is $15, youth (ages 9-15) $8, with 8-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30, regardless of age.

*** NOTE: Fans may purchase a two-night adult grandstand ticket on Friday at Volunteer Speedway for $30, which will admit you both nights - Friday at "The Gap" and Saturday at Wythe Raceway.

Tell your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers all about racing at Volunteer Speedway. You can't beat the excitement of an action-packed night of racing at "The Gap!"

No lawn chairs will be permitted in the front straightaway grandstand. Only stadium seat-type cushions will be allowed. There are many grandstand seats at the track with backs on them. Also, no coolers or outside food allowed to be brought into the front straightaway (main) grandstand! Coolers are permitted in the pit area and the reserved backstretch tier-parking - however, no glass containers allowed.

Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville), then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for track entrance approximately 200 yards on left.

North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN), take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance approximately 300 yards ahead on left.

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing scheduled
Friday, May 6 at Kingsport Speedway

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — No matter how young or old we are, there is no love like that from a mother shown to her children. We all know the special importance mothers are in all our lives, and Kingsport Speedway plans to recognize mothers both young and old on Friday, May 6 in celebration of Mother’s Day weekend.

Fans will be treated to an exciting four-division racing program on the .375-mile banked concrete oval with NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stocks headlining the action, along with racing in Street Stock, Pure 4 and Legends.

Nate Monteith of Blountville has captured three Late Model Stock feature wins to lead the point standings over Daniel Pope II of Smyrna and Lee Tissot of Asheville, N.C. Both Pope and Tissot each have one victory.

Chuck Crigger of Church Hill has recorded two Street Stock victories to stand atop the points leaderboard over Jeff Counts and Roger Neece. Counts and Rob Austin each have one feature win.

Even though he's yet to reach victory lane yet in 2011, consistent finishes in the top-five have placed James Mills in the Pure 4 points lead. John Ketron, Dean Slagle and Keith Helton each have recorded Pure 4 feature wins this season.

With two Legends events in the books this season, Hayden Woods of Piney Flats has reached victory lane in both races.

Pit gate opens Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m. Grandstands open at 5:30 p.m.

Practice is tentatively scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with drivers' meeting at 6:55 p.m. Qualifying is slated for 7:15 p.m., to be followed by racing getting the green flag around 8 p.m.

Otherwise adult grandstand admission is $10, with kids age 12-and-under admitted free. Tier-parking adult admission $10 per person (plus $10 vehicle fee). Pit passes are $25 with a NASCAR license, $35 without a license. NASCAR license forms are available at the track office during the week, and they will also be available at pit sign-in the day of event.

*** NOTE: Open practice is scheduled at Kingsport Speedway on Thursday, May 5 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Pit admission $20 per person.
