For Immediate Release: April 27, 2011
Late Model Driver Ryan Robertson and his #31 Sheetz Chevrolet will be participating in the fourth annual Short Track Showdown to benefit the Denny Hamlin Foundation this Thursday night at Richmond International Raceway.
Robertson will join a list of talented drivers, including several NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers, in the nationally televised race that benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation in their quest to raise funds for individuals and families suffering from cystic fibrosis. The starting lineup of the Late Model race includes NASCAR Sprint Cup stars Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Joey Logano, Michael Waltrip and Trevor Bayne.
Robertson said that he is excited about his first race at the famed ¾ mile D-shaped oval, especially when it is for a good cause. “We are looking forward to showing what the Sheetz Chevrolet can do,” said Robertson. “RIR is a fun track to drive. We had a good test here last week, and we feel like we’ve got a good car.”
Robertson will have to qualify in on time, and with 15 slots guaranteed for Sprint Cup drivers, it will be a competitive field of select Late Model drivers from across the Southeast vying for the remaining starting slots.
Robertson is not new to this kind of challenge. The young driver turned heads in 2010 at Martinsville Speedway in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 where he threw down a 4th fastest qualifying time among the 85 cars trying to make the field. The team battled several mechanical issues during the race, but still managed to get the car back on the lead lap to finish.
Prior to this race, Robertson, along with his Sheetz show car, will make an appearance at the Sheetz at 7035 West Broad Street, in Richmond, VA, on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the launch of the new Sheetza Pizza. Available in either cheese or pepperoni, the new Sheetza Pizza full pie pizzas will be sampled from 4 to 7 PM. Radio station 102.1 The X will be on hand.
