Morris Snares Fourth SBS Win

South Boston, Va……..Philip Morris started on the pole and led the entire distance to win Saturday night’s USG Late Model 150 here at South Boston Speedway.

The win was the fourth in a row for the former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion, who also captured his third straight pole position in qualifying.

Two-time defending South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division Champion Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C. finished second, edging Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. for the spot. He trailed Morris by 2.488 seconds at the finish.

Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, Va. finished fourth and Natalie Sather of Fargo, N.D. rounded out the top five finishers.

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va., Michael Hardin of Pomfret, Md., Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Va., Terry Dease of Oxford, N.C. and Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. completed the top ten in the finishing order.

There were only two cautions in the race, the first one for debris on the track and the second one on lap 83 for a spin by Sam Hunt of Midlothian, Va.

Morris held the lead on the restart, and pulled away from his challengers to secure the win.

He averaged 70.852 mph in the 150-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division race that took 50 minutes and 48 seconds to complete.

Snow Wins Limited Sportsman Division Race

Defending South Boston Speedway NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division Champion Justin Snow of Danville, Va. had another big night in the 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race.

Snow started on the pole and led the entire race to pick up his third win in five starts here on the .4-mile oval. He finished 1.045 second ahead of runner-up Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va.

Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va., Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, Va. and Blake Stallings of Danville, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Snow averaged 43.315 mph in the race that was slowed by two cautions.

Crews Scores Win In Pure Stock Division

Trey Crews of Halifax, Va. scored a wire-to-wire win in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The win, Crews’ first win of the season here, made him the fourth different winner in as many races here this season.

Crews edged Bruce Mayo of Halifax, Va. in a four-lap sprint to the finish that followed the race’s final caution period. His margin of victory was .267-second.

Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va., Daniel Crews of Long Island, Va., and Joe Allred of Scottsburg, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Gwynn Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Daryl Gwynn of Reidsville, N.C. led the entire race in winning the 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division. Jeff Guill of Madison Heights, Va. finished second and Bob Randall of Falmouth, Va. finished third.

Daryl Lacks and Donnie Lacks, both of Goode, Va., started on the front row but crashed on the opening lap of the race. The crash sidelined both drivers the rest of the night.

Johnson Scores Win In IMCA-Style Modified Race

Chris Johnson of Midlothian, Va. took the lead from A.J. Winstead of Richmond, Va. on lap 32 and held on to win the 50-lap race for the IMCA-Style Modifieds.

The win was Johnson’s first career win at South Boston Speedway where his grandfather, Cal Johnson, won in dirt modifieds and his father, veteran driver Eddie Johnson, has won in NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division competition.

Winstead finished second, .169-second behind Johnson, with Rusty Wood of Midlothian, Va.. Hunter Slayton of Richmond, Va. and Joe Scarbrough of Charles City, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Next Race At South Boston Speedway

South Boston Speedway will host its second special event of the season on Saturday night, May 7, with the PASS Super Late Model 150/Twin NASCAR Whelen Late Model event.

 The event, which will get the green flag at 7 p.m., will include a 150-lap race for the PASS South Super Late Models and twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Cars.

Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. The first race will start at 7 p.m.

Advance tickets are on sale through Friday, May 6 and are priced at $10 each. The advance tickets may be purchased at the South Boston Speedway office.

Tickets on race day will be priced at $15 each. Youth ages 7-12 will be admitted for $5 when accompanied by a paying adult.
