SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The best of the best NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car competitors will return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, April 23, for the running of the USG Late Model 150 NASCAR Whelen All American race program.
A total of five races are scheduled Saturday night with the first slated to get the green flag at 7 p.m.
The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap clash for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Former multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris owns the top spot in the Late Model Stock Car Division standings at America’s Hometown Track after rolling to a pair of wins in twin 75-lap competition earlier this month.
The list of drivers chasing him in the points race is quite impressive, however. Josh Oakley, who scored a pair of top-four finishes in the twin 75-lap races on April 2, is second in the standings, 15 points behind Morris and only six ahead of veteran competitor Frank Deiny Jr. Nick Smith is fourth in the standings and is only four ahead of two-time defending champion Justin Johnson.
Also slated Saturday night are races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Southern Vintage Modifieds and a special appearance by the IMCA Style Modifieds.
Defending champion Justin Snow continues to lead the Limited Sportsman Division standings; however, his advantage is only three points over Brian Pembelton and seven over third-place Danny Willis Jr.
Bill Edwards has opened a 16-point edge over Joe Allred in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. Daniel Crews is third, just one point behind Allred and three ahead of fourth-place Randy Hupp.
As a special feature Saturday evening, an Easter Egg Hunt for children with the Easter Bunny will be held prior to racing action.
Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
