Morris Earns Sweep At SBS

South Boston, Va…..Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va. pulled off a clean sweep here Saturday night, winning both of the twin 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division races at South Boston Speedway.

The pair of wins gives Morris three straight wins here at South Boston Speedway and wins in three of the season’s first four races.

He started on the pole in both of the 75-lap races and led every lap in both races.

Morris edged Frank Deiny Jr. of Ashland, Va. by 1.412 second in the first 75-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race with Nick Smith of Hampton, Va., Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. and Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

In the nightcap, Morris drove away from the field in a 22-lap dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution flag to make a sweep of the night’s two races. He edged Smith by 1.240 second with Oakley finishing third and Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. and Natalie Sather of Fargo, N.D. rounding out the top five finishers.

Morris averaged 66.251 mph in winning the opening race. He averaged 49.486 mph in winning the nightcap.

Willis Takes Limited Sportsman Win

Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. picked up his first win of the season Saturday night in the 50-lap NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division race.

With the win, Willis became the division’s third different winner in four races.

Willis held off Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va. in an eight-lap dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution period. His margin of victory was .488-second.

Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. finished third with Austin Thaxton of South Boston, Va. finishing fourth and Aaron Burnett of Chesterfield, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Willis averaged 24.754 mph in the race that was slowed by five caution periods.

Allred Wins Pure Stock Race

Joe Allred III of Scottsburg, Va. grabbed the lead from Nathan Crews of Long Island, Va. with 10 laps to go and held on to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The win was Allred’s first victory of the season and he became the third different winner in as many races this season.

Bill Edwards of Danville, Va. finished second, .538-second behind Allred. Trey Crews of Halifax, Va., Daniel Crews of Long Island, Va. and Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va. completed the top-five finishers in the 17-car field.

Allred averaged 33.998 mph in the race that was slowed by two caution periods.

Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. took the lead from Joseph Overstreet with six laps to go and won the 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

The win was Lacks’ second victory in as many races.

Scott Stinnett of Madison Heights, Va., Bill Lacks of Goode, Va. and Bob Randall of Falmouth, Va. completed the top-five finishers.

Next Race At South Boston Speedway

South Boston Speedway will host its first special event of the season on Saturday night, April 16, with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Doubleheader.

Fans can see a full day and night of activity, with the first race of the two NASCAR touring series doubleheader getting the green flag at 7 p.m.

Practice will start at 11:15 a.m. with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour drivers taking the track first, kicking off alternating practice sessions that will end at 2:30 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. Qualifying will start at 3:45 p.m. with qualifying time trials for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Qualifying time trials for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series competitors will follow at 4:30 p.m.

Fans will have an opportunity to meet the drivers and get autographs during an autograph session to be held from 5:15 p.m. until 6:15 p.m.

The first race will start at 7 p.m. with the 150-lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series race being run first.

Advance tickets are on sale through Friday, April 15 and are priced at $15 each. The advance tickets may be purchased at the South Boston Speedway office.

Tickets on race day will be priced at $20 each. Youth ages 7-12 will be admitted for $10 when accompanied by a paying adult.
