Sellers Breaks Dry Spell At SBS
Mar 12, 2011 - updated Mar 12th, 2011 11:41pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, Va --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peyton Sellers has finally broken his lengthy win drought at South Boston Speedway.

Sellers inched away from Nick Smith of Hampton, Va. during the final 20 laps of the race and held on to win the season-opening NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model 150 here Saturday afternoon at South Boston Speedway.

His margin of victory was .882 second, or about four car lengths.

The win was Sellers’ first victory in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway since 2005, the year in which he won 12 races at the .4-mile oval and won the track’s NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division title.

It came in a Ford owned by Ted Daves. Sellers is driving a limited schedule of 10 races for Daves this season.

Jeb Burton of Halifax, Va. finished third with Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. and Terry Carroll of Williamsburg, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. finished sixth in his Late Model Stock Car Division debut, with last season’s track champion, Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., finishing seventh. Spencer Gallagher, former track champion Frank Deiny Jr. of Ashland, Va. and Natalie Sather of Fargo, N.D. rounded out the top ten finishers.

Sellers led all but the opening lap of the 150-lap race, and survived a handful of challenges from drivers that included Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. and Smith.

Pulliam, Falk and a handful of top contenders were sidelined in mishaps among the 10 caution periods and two red flags that punctuated the race. Only 12 of the race’s 26 starters were running at the end of the race.

Sellers averaged 42.384 mph in the 150-lap race that took one hour, 24 minutes and 56 seconds to complete.

Snow Maintains Form In Limited Sportsman Division

Justin Snow of Danville, Va. had a successful 2010 season in winning the South Boston Speedway Limited Sportsman Division title.

Snow maintained his momentum here Saturday by winning the division’s 50-lap season-opening race.

The Danville, Va, resident started on the pole and led every lap, edging Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va. in an eight-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s five caution flags.

His margin of victory was .394 second.

Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. finished third with Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. and Mark Simpson of Moseley, Va. rounding out the top five finishers in the 16-car field.

Edwards Takes Pure Stock Win

It has been several years since Bill Edwards of Ringgold, Va. has won a race at South Boston Speedway.

Edwards broke his South Boston Speedway drought Saturday afternoon by winning the 30-lap season-opening race for the Pure Stock Division.

The Ringgold, Va. resident took the lead from Trey Crews of Halifax, Va. with 11 laps to go and held on to edge runner-up Joe Allred III of Scottsburg, Va. by 2.616 seconds.

Crews finished third with Daniel Crews of Long Island, Va. and Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. took the lead on the third lap and held on the rest of the way to win the 25-lap season-opening race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va., Chris Jones of Forest, Va., Joseph Overstreet and Bob Randall of Falmouth, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
