Doggett to race late model for FDJ Motorsports in 2011
Mar 6, 2011 - updated Mar 6th, 2011 10:54pm
Web posted by

Glen Alen, Va --

For Immediate Release:March 7, 2011

Taylor Doggett is set for another season of stock-car racing in the Southeast. The 2011 season will see the 18-year-old up and comer drive an FDJ Motorsports entry at Orange County Speedway, a three-eighths-mile high-banked oval located just north of Durham in Rougemont, N.C.

Doggett’s teaming with the Hanover, Va.-based FDJ Motorsports team, owned by Frank Deiny Jr., also marks his move from limited late models to a full-blown late-model stock car. In a deal finalized last Friday, Doggett will race an FDJ-owned, McDonald’s-sponsored No. 49 in Orange County’s nine regular late model shows; he hopes to run at other tracks throughout the South if extra funding can be secured.

The personable Doggett, who’s in the process of completing his last few months of high school, is eager to get started in the FDJ car when the team heads to Orange County to test on March 19.

“This is a really neat deal for us, and I couldn’t be more excited,” Doggett said Sunday afternoon. “FDJ Motorsports is a proven team and clearly on top of their game. And they’re a great group of guys. Their shop is very close to home, so I’ll be able to spend a lot of time around the team, learning and getting to know the guys. I’m just very glad to be a part of their team in 2011; this is a great opportunity.”

As for the tricky OCS oval, Doggett’s never seen the track but he’s excited to hit the North Carolina oval in a couple weeks.

“I’ve never run (at OCS), but I’ve heard a lot about it. I’m up for the challenge and I can’t wait to test in a couple weeks. The more tracks you can run, the better as far as I’m concerned,” Doggett stated.

Doggett’s certainly not lacking experience at different speedways. The 2011 season will mark the fourth straight year Doggett will base his schedule on a different track. He ran on the dirt in the sportsman class at Virginia Motor Speedway in 2008, where he continues to race when his schedule allows. Doggett moved to asphalt limited late models at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway in 2009, while last year Doggett won two features in the limited late model division while running the full schedule at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.

Through it all, Doggett has been supported by McDonald’s, which will return as his primary sponsor in 2011. In fact, last week Doggett and his father, Todd, had their dirt sportsman at a newly renovated McDonald’s in Carmel Church, Va.

“We’re very proud to have McDonald’s back on board this season,” Doggett said. “William Washington and his whole family have been with us for five or six years now, and we wouldn’t be anywhere without them. We’ve grown together and it’s not only been a great partnership, but a great friendship, as well.”

The sponsorship comes from 10 McDonald’s restaurants owned by Washington in the Ashland, Caroline and Northern Neck areas of Virginia.

Doggett’s season at Orange County kicks off with a 75-lapper on Saturday, April 9, where he’ll look to continue the momentum from a strong 2010 season at South Boston, which included two feature wins and the Limited Late Model Rookie of the Year award.

About Taylor Doggett

Taylor Doggett is an 18-year-old late-model racer from Ruther Glen, Va. Doggett got his start racing karts on dirt ovals throughout southern Virginia before moving to dirt sportsman at Virginia Motor Speedway in 2007. Now, he’s primarily an asphalt racer with two seasons under his belt racing limited late models at Hickory Motor Speedway and South Boston Speedway.

Doggett makes the move to late models in 2011 with FDJ Motorsports. He’ll run the nine-race schedule at Orange County Speedway, as well as selected dirt sportsman shows at VMS.
