Moore / Dease Finish 2010 as Winners at OCS
Oct 25, 2010 - updated Oct 25th, 2010 10:47am

Rougemont, NC --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Two weeks ago at Orange County Speedway, Craig Moore had possibly the worst night of his racing career. Finishing dead last after wrecking out, Moore saw the point lead he had held on to for the entire summer evaporate, with Terry Dease taking over by six points. Moore would have to finish three spots ahead of Dease to take back the point lead, and the 2010 OCS track championship.

Moore and Dease would draw second and third starting spots respectively, with Tripp Massengill being rewarded for his return to the high banks in Rougemont by drawing the pole. Moore would come out firing, taking the lead on Lap 1 and not looking back. Massengill would keep the heat on Moore, never letting the Rougemont driver get more than 10 car lengths ahead.

Behind Moore and Massengill, Terry Dease was fighting to hold third place. Previous race winner Michael McGuire made many charges for Dease’s position, but his car wound up being too tight to make a pass on the bottom of the track. After repeated attempts at Dease, McGuire would back away for a few laps, then mount another charge. McGuire never would make it past Dease, allowing Dease to finish in third place.

Craig Moore would hold on to win the track’s final event of 2010, with Massengill second, Dease third, McGuire fourth and Hunter Devers fifth. With Dease finishing third, he clinches the 2010 track championship by two points over Moore. Paul Bryant finishes a successful season finishing third in points, with Zachary marks and Melvin Langley rounding out the season’s top five.

It was another close point battle in Limited Sportsman, where Justin Newlin has held the point lead for the vast majority of the summer. In the previous few races, however, Newlin has seen a sizable lead shrink to a mere 10 points ahead of Ricky Jones after a few poor finishes by Newlin.

Kyle Appel would make a return appearance to OCS and start on the pole, with Newlin on his outside. Newlin would go to the point early, leading the field while Ricky Jones fought for sixth place with Chuck Lawson. Mid-race, Newlin saw his lead evaporate as Denny Willis Jr. made his way past the black and red 72 machine into the lead and didn’t look back. Newlin would spend the rest of the race avoiding trouble, falling back to eighth. Ricky Jones couldn’t make up the difference, however, and would only finish two spots ahead of Newlin. Willis Jr. would win, with Donald Brace finishing second and Kyle Appel holding onto third.

Justin Newlin’s eighth place finish coupled with Ricky Jones’ sixth place finish gives Newlin the 2010 OCS Limited Sportsman track championship. Jones finishes six points behind in second, with Louis White, Chris Crosby and Jerry Hinesley finishing out the season in the top five

Keith Edwards has dominated the Grand Stock division at Orange County for the season, winning eight of the first 10 events, and never finishing out of the top three. Saturday night would be a different story, as Edwards would succumb to clutch trouble, leaving the night’s race wide open. Daniel Schadt would take advantage, leading the majority of the race while the field behind him scrambled for position. At the end of the night Jay Williams would be rewarded for a three-hour haul to OCS with a second place finish and Dennis Sargent collecting third after Jay Pendergrass’ machine was found to be too light in post-race inspection. Despite Edwards’ troubles, he leaves OCS as the track champion in the Grand Stock class, with season-long contenders Schadt and Sargent finishing second and third.

All Jarrett Milam needed to do to secure the OCS Pure Stock championship was roll past the start finish line on Lap 1. Not being content with that, Milam would make a late pass on his father Jack Milam to win the final race of 2010. Jack Milam fought off his son for 10 laps before Jarrett slipped by on Lap 19. Jack Milam was able to hold off a charging Josh Barnes for second, while Barnes scored his best finish anywhere in 2010 coming across third.

The Milam family will finish the season in the top two spots, with Jarrett finishing ahead of his father, Jack. Jim Lacks beats out Les Aliff for third place, with Aliff finishing the season fourth and Derrick Easter fifth.

Chet Christman would draw the pole in Street Stocks and not look back while the field scurried behind him for position. Christman led every lap while Gary Ledbetter made a charge, running out of time and having to settle for second place, with Jamie Ruddock finishing a season-best third.

Two weeks ago, Junior Chriscoe saw his race end prematurely with a wreck at the exit of Turn 4. Saturday night, however, he was able to navigate the 3/8 mile track with ease, moving up from fifth place to take the lead halfway through the 25 lap event and not looking back. Had he looked back, he would have seen Anthony Bennett and Scottie York battling for position, and finishing second and third, respectively.

In Modified action, Johnboy Brown would beat out Richard Thomas after fighting side by side for position, with Roy Cook finishing third. And in the final race of the season, Johnny Johnson beat out Kenneth Tuttle and Clayton Smith in East Coast Flathead racing.

Orange County Speedway thanks all of its drivers, crew members and most importantly fans for a successful 2010 season. Be sure to check out www.ocstrack.com for information on the coming 2011 schedule.
