Orange County Speedway News
Carolina Collector AutoFest.com 320 is the Championship Race at OCS
Oct 19, 2010 - updated Oct 19th, 2010 9:39pm

Rougemont,N.C. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The 2010 Orange County Speedway season of racing will conclude the afternoon of October 23rd with the running of the CarolinaCollectorAutoFest.com 320. This 3:30 pm green flag season finale will showcase nine divisions in what will be an exciting afternoon of racing. The following local divisions will complete their race to the championship: Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Grand Stock, Street Stocks, Modifieds and Pure Stock. In addition, the Southern Ground Pounders Modifieds and Sportsman cars will run 25 laps. The Mini-Stock Trucks as well as the East Coast Flat Head Fords will make their final appearance for the year.

High Point native, Gary Ledbetter, will attempt to win his first OCS Street Stock Division Championship Trophy by holding off Sanford’s Clyde Johnson and Richard Hayden of Timberlake. Ledbetter begins the final event with a 14 point lead.

Roy Cook of Mebane has a substantial lead over Liberty’s Barry Moize to secure the OCS Modified Division Championship Trophy.

In the Grand Stock division, Pendleton, NC’s Keith Edward has a 32 point lead over last race winner Daniel Schadt of Asheboro and a 74 point lead over Dennis Sargent. But the young Schadt enjoys the taste of that first win so much it is sure he will battle hard for another.

While the Pure Stock Championship is pretty well decided with Jarret Milam’s 26 point lead, the 2nd place finish shows a 14 point difference between Jack Milam of Ringgold, VA and South Boston’s Jim Lacks.

Limited Sportsman point leader Justin Newlin of Siler City has just one more event to clinch his first championship. But Newlin’s last race issues enabled Angier’s Ricky Jones to come within 10 points. Both drivers have won events this season and will not doubt put it all on the line to finish on top this Saturday afternoon.

The Late Model Championship run took a dire turn for Craig Moore’s championship hopes when his early race wreck forced him out of the event and enabled Oxford’s Terry Dease to take the lead by six points. Word early on was Moore of Rougemont was discourage he would not be able to repair his car. But Moore determined to win his first championship made plans to test his repairs earlier this week. So the fight to the finish is on.

Fans are encouraged to visit www.OCSTrack.com to vote for their favorite driver of the year.

Backgate opens at 9:30 am with practice to begin at 10:45 am and qualifying at 2:00 pm. The Carolina Collector Auto Fest cruise-in will begin about 2:00 pm.
