NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

Six division titles will be decided this
Saturday, Oct. 16, as Langley Speedway puts the wraps on its 2010 NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series points campaign with the Night of Champions.
This week’s feature lineup includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps);
Pepsi Grand Stocks (40 laps); Langley Fan Club Super Streets (40 laps);
Larry King Law Super Trucks (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25
laps); and, Enduros (50 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m., while afternoon practice gets under way at
2. Time trials are slated for 4:30, following a 4:15 drivers meeting.
Pre-race activities begin at 6:45 and the first feature event gets the
green flag shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans”
(under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military
personnel (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+,
with ID) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price. “Family
Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a
savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased online by clicking on the appropriate
link at www.langley-speedway.com or in the Speedway office during
regular business hours.

Shawn Balluzzo and Thomas Stinson will settle the hotly-contested
Modified championship in Saturday night’s 50-lapper. Balluzzo comes into
the event with a slim, four-point edge in the standings, 574-570.
Looking at the season’s results from a tiebreaker standpoint, both
drivers have scored four race wins and four runner-up finishes, while
Balluzzo holds a 3-2 advantage in thirds. Each driver has finished
fourth once and Stinson has one fifth.
To seal up the title, it’s likely that Balluzzo will need to finish no
worse than one spot behind Stinson in Saturday’s finale. That would give
him the championship outright and avoid any of the tiebreaking
scenarios, which might not tip in his favor.

In the Grand Stock division, Ricky Derrick holds an eight-point lead
over Robbie Parker, 526-518. With a 3-1 edge in race wins, though,
Parker owns the tiebreaker. Derrick can clinch his second straight crown
by finishing fourth or better.

Super Street and Super Truck leaders Randy Sample and Robbie Davis share
similar missions as they head into Saturday’s points finales for their
respective classes.
In the Super Streets, Sample leads Ryan Nester by 36 points, 564-528.
With nine wins, Sample has the tiebreaker in his hip pocket and will nab
his second straight title by finishing 19th or better.
Like Sample, Davis also holds a 36-point advantage in the Super Truck
standings, 612-576 over Tommy Nixon. He has also posted nine wins to
control the tiebreaker and can unseat Nixon, the defending champ, by
coming home in 19th or better.

In the UCARs, Michael Joyner took advantage of Sammy Gaita’s 17th-place
outing on Sept. 25 to retake the division lead. He brings a
relatively-comfortable 22-point margin, 532-510, into this weekend’s
25-lapper.
Joyner and Gaita both have one race win to their credit this season,
while Joyner has two runner-up finishes to one for Gaita. Gaita holds
the edge in the third tiebreaker, though, with six third-place finishes
to one for Joyner.
Joyner can remove all the drama and claim the ‘10 UCAR title by
finishing 11th or better on Saturday night.
• • •
Danny Harrell holds a 12-point lead over Mike Ganoe, 192-180, in the
Enduro standings. The two drivers have split the division’s four races
this season with Harrell taking the first two and Ganoe winning the last
pair. Harrell has one second-place finish to none for Ganoe, who has one
third-place finish to none for Harrell.
Harrell can wrap up the Enduro title by finishing sixth or better in
Saturday’s season-ending 50-lapper.

The Super Street and UCAR divisions will share center stage on Saturday,
Oct. 23, when Langley Speedway hosts the Super Street Showdown and
Virginia State UCAR Championship. Both races are slated for 75 laps. Pro
Sixes and Champ Karts round out the evening’s lineup.
For visiting Super Street and UCAR teams, rules and other entry info for
the event have been posted on the Speedway’s Web site —
www.langley-speedway.com.

Langley Speedway’s Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Friday, Nov.
19, at the Holiday Inn Hampton Coliseum Conference Center. Tickets are
$45 each and go on sale in the Speedway office on Thursday, Oct. 14. The
deadline for ticket purchases is Tuesday, Nov. 16.
