GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Night 150 slated Saturday at South Boston Speedway

Southboston, Va. --

• SoBo’s division championships will be crowned

A season worth of hard work will be rewarded for the leaders in the division championship chases Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

America’s Hometown Track will return to action Saturday for the running of the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Night 150 NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing program. The evening is also being billed as the Championship Night as the winners of South Boston Speedway’s division points races will be decided.

Five races are on tap Saturday night as part of the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Night 150 and four track championships are on the line. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Champions will be crowned in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds Division. The Budweiser Pure Stock Division competitors will be battling it out in twin races Saturday.

The rain date for the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Night 150 will be Sunday, Sept. 5.

Highlighting Saturday’s racing action will be a 150-lap shootout for the drivers in the NASAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Nine-time winner and defending division champion Justin Johnson has already clinched the 2010 crown, but will be seeking to score his 10th win of the campaign on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Lee Pulliam, who has won four of the past six NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division events and has five victories overall for the campaign, will be seeking to lock up the second place spot in the final standings. Pulliam, who swept wins in both 75-lap Late Model Stock Car Division events last weekend, is 22 points ahead of third-place Stacy Puryear, who owns one victory in 2010.

Deac McCaskill, who has one win for the season, is fourth in the title chase and is nine points in front of fifth-place David Latour.

Justin Snow, who has reeled off four consecutive wins and six overall for the season, will enter the final points race for the Limited Sportsman Division Saturday with an 18-point lead over second-place Tommy Peregoy.

Peregoy, who owned the points lead earlier in the season, has scored four wins in 2010. One-time winner Danny Willis Jr. is third in the Limited Sportsman Division standings.

Despite reeling off six wins thus far in 2010, Jarrett Milam will enter the twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division Saturday night with only a slim 18-point cushion over Joe Allred, who has motored to Victory Lane twice this season. One-time winner Randy Hupp is third in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings.

Darryl Lacks has collected four wins this year and will enter the final points race for the Southern Vintage Modifieds with a 27-point lead over one-time winner Donnie Lacks.

Pit registration will begin at noon Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 7-12. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
