Williams Dominates on Way to Victory Lap Late Model Win; Arnold, Wood and Givens also winners at Virginia Motor Speedway

Jamaica, VA – The beginning of the Victory Lap Late Model feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway began with a lot of promise as Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD and David Williams of Avenue, MD began a side by side battle for the lead that had the crowd on it’s feet. But good things sometimes come to an end way too soon.

Long and Davis Lipscombe led the stout field to green with Long leading the first circuit with Williams right on his bumper. Williams would jump to the inside of Long in turn 1 as the two raced door to door with Williams nipping Long at the line for the lead on lap 3. Long would battle back on the outside and would take the lead back by inches on the next circuit.

The two raced side by side over the next three laps before the races first and only caution of the night would come out for a two car spin in turn 2. While under caution Long’s car would come to a stop in turn 4 and would need assistance getting to pit road handing the lead to Williams. Long’s promising night would come to an end as he was unable to get back on the track.

On the restart Williams pulled away from Davis Lipscombe and the rest of the field. The closest Limpscombe would get would be on lap 20 as the two worked traffic but it was all Williams as he cruised to the win in convincing style.

“I hated to see Stevie (Long) fall out of the race, it was a blast racing him for the lead and I think the fans would have seen a lot more of the same side by side racing if he would have not broke,” commented Williams in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Sommey Lacey, Matt Marshall and Scott Adams.

In other action Tony Wood of New Kent, VA would hold off Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA on the final lap to pick up his first win of 2010 in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division. In the Budweiser Modifieds Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA would hold off Brian Maxey of King George, VA for the win and in the Collision One Limited Stock division James Givens of New Kent, VA picked up the victory.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature saw Shawn Otey and J.R. Guy led the field to green with Guy leading the first lap with Roger Jamerson on his bumper. On the next circuit Jamerson would dive under Guy in turn 2 to take over the lead.

On lap 3 Taylor Doggett went to working the high side and took over the second spot on lap 5 in a three way battle for the position. On lap 10 Jamerson looped his car in turn 4 doing a complete 360 allowing Tony Wood and Taylor Doggett to get by with Wood taking the lead. Jamerson would work his way back to second and on lap 17 made it to the back of Wood as the two headed to turn 3. On the final lap Jamerson would take one more shot at Wood for the lead only to come up short at the line. Wood’s win marks the first time a crate motor has won a feature at VMS. Rounding out the top 5 were Roger Jamerson, Michael Roop, Shawn Otey and Davey Pullen.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature it only took Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA five laps to move from his sixth place starting position to take over the top spot from Dustin Bishop. Once out front Arnold set a blistering pace.

Behind him Brian Maxey of King George, VA began to pick off one position at a time. On lap 14 Maxey got to the inside of John Ferguson on a restart and the two raced door to door for the next two laps before Maxey would secure the position. On lap 17 the races final caution would close Maxey back on the bumper of leader Arnold.

Maxey would only get one shot at Arnold for the lead and it came on the restart of lap 17. Maxey would take a peak inside Arnold heading into turn 1 but Arnold would power off turn 2 to maintain his lead. Over the final laps Arnold would pull away from the field and go on to his second win in a row. Rounding out the top 5 were Brian Maxey, Dustin Bishop, John Ferguson and Josh Harris.

In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Joe Ender and Ryan Toole led the field to green with Ender leading the first circuit with Toole, Brett Adkins and James Givens all in tow. On lap 3 Adkins would take control of the race when Ender would slide up turn 2 allowing Adkins to pass to the inside. On lap 13 Toole would get inside Adkins off of turn 2 but couldn’t make the pass.

On lap 18 Toole would finally pull off the pass taking the lead. As the two raced down the backstretch Toole and Adkins would make contact sending Toole spinning bringing out the caution. Adkins would come to pit road with a flat left front. With both leaders at the rear of the field the lead was handed to James Givens. On the restart Kevin Fletcher would get inside Givens in turn 1, the two made contact out of turn 2 sending Fletcher spinning.

On the races final restart Givens pulled away and went on for the victory. Rounding out the top five were Wesley Givens, Joe Ender, Marty Coltrain and Brandon Sandridge.
