Greg Edwards looks to maintain momentum in Twin 75s

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010

His championship hopes buoyed by back-to-back
doubleheader sweeps, Greg Edwards will seek to conjure a little more
magic this Saturday, Aug. 7, as Langley Speedway’s Crossroads Fuel
Service Late Model Stock Cars hit the track on Home Builders Night for a
pair of 75-lap feature events.
Along with the Late Model Twins, this week’s NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series slate includes: Pepsi Grand Stocks (40 laps); Langley Fan Club
Super Streets (40 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); and,
Virginia Mini Cups (25 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice gets under way at 2.
Qualifying is schedule for 4:30, right after the 4:15 drivers meeting.
Pre-race festivities begin at 6:45, while the evening’s first feature
race goes green shortly past 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans”
(under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military
personnel (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+,
with ID) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price. “Family
Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a
savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased online by clicking on the appropriate
link at www.langley-speedway.com or at the Speedway office during
regular business hours.

Langley’s Late Model points leader, C.E. Falk, ranks sixth in this
week’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Top 500. He checks in
between a couple of Nebraska dirt Late Model aces, fifth-place Matt
Buller and seventh-place Bill Leighton Jr. Connecticut Modified standout
Keith Rocco continues to hold down the top spot.
Other Langley regulars in the top hundred include: Woody Howard (10th),
Greg Edwards (11th), Wes Falk (23rd), Danny Edwards Jr. (25th), Mark
Wertz (33rd), Brandon Gdovic (66th) and Casey Wyatt (87th).
In the Virginia state standings, C.E. Falk, Howard and Greg Edwards are
second, third and fourth, while Wes Falk, Danny Edwards Jr. and Wertz
are 10th, 11th and 12th. Gdovic is 16th and Wyatt completes the top 20.
Despite a disqualification at South Boston last weekend, Justin Johnson
remains the leader.

Robbie Parker’s two-race winning streak in Grand Stock competition may
have come to an end in last Saturday’s race, but, from a “big picture”
perspective, he still enjoyed a productive night. With his third-place
outing, he broke a deadlock with defending champ Ricky Derrick and now
owns a six-point advantage in the division standings.
Six more races remain on the Grand Stock schedule and the chase for the
‘10 title is a tight one as only 26 points separate Parker from
sixth-place Mark Claar.

Randy Sample continued his dominance in Super Street action last
weekend, scoring his sixth win in seven starts and padding his points
lead to 16 over Kevin Alves, who moved from fourth to second in the
rankings.
In the one race he didn’t win, on June 19, Sample started on the pole
and held the lead when mechanical problems chased him to the pits on the
second circuit. The pause for repairs cost him two laps, but he
“lucky-dogged” his way back onto the lead lap and finished sixth.

Joe Hendricks Jr. brings a two-race winning streak into Saturday’s INEX
Legends 25-lapper. In the standings, he leads ‘09 champ Steve Keesee by
14 points, while Brad Hancock is 20 behind.
It’s hard to imagine a more dramatic reversal of fortune than the one
that has befallen Hancock lately. In the season’s first six races, he
produced five wins and a sixth-place finish and seemed to be well on his
way to a division championship.
On July 10, however, Hancock was sidelined by an early-race wreck and
finished 12th (last). Then, in the next event, on July 24, engine
problems left him with another last-place result (13th).
Hancock will try to right the ship this weekend and claw back into title
contention, as well as build momentum for the INEX Legends Nationals,
which Langley hosts in October.

Clay Rogers will try to complete the season sweep when the USARacing Pro
Cup Series returns to Langley Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 14, for the
Hampton VA “Need For Speed” 250. It’ll be the last “regular season”
event before the Pro Cuppers kick off their five-race Championship
Series.
Rogers, wheeling the #16 Ford Fusion for Chesapeake, Va.-based Lamb &
Robinson Racing, has claimed six wins and six poles in the season’s
first eight races. He’s currently riding a five-race winning streak.
A 100-lap feature for the Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars
will complement the Pro Cup tilt on Aug. 14.
