Pulliam Wins Rain-Shortened SBS Race

South Boston, Va………..Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. scored his second win in his last three starts here Saturday night as he topped the field in the rain-shortened NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division race at South Boston Speedway.

The scheduled 150-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race, the headline event of the Country Cares St. Jude’s Night racing program, was stopped at 126 laps as rain pelted the speedway for the second time of the night.

Rain began falling and the race was put under caution at lap 119. With the rain intensifying, track NASCAR officials stopped the race at lap 126.

Stacy Puryear of South Boston, Va. finished second with division points leader Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C. finishing third. Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. and David Latour of Advance, N.C. rounded out the top five finishers.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., Jeb Burton of Halifax, Va., Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C., Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. and Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va. rounded out the top ten finishers.

The win was the third of the season for Pulliam, who led by over a quarter of a lap at one point in the race.

He averaged 70.483 mph in the race that was slowed by three caution periods that consumed 18 laps.

Francisco Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Ryan Francisco of Nathalie, Va. grabbed the lead from Randy Smith on the second lap and sped away to win the 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

The win was Francisco’s first win in the division.

Smith finished second with division points leader Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. finishing third. Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va. and Chris Jones of Forest, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Rain washed out the night’s other scheduled races.
