South Boston Speedway News
Johnson will try to maintain dominance on Country Cares St. Jude Night at SoBo

Southboston, Va. --

Barring a complete collapse in the final five NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division races of the 2010 season, Justin Johnson appears poised to claim his second consecutive championship at South Boston Speedway.

With a 125-point lead in the standings heading into Saturday night’s Country Cares St. Jude Night at America’s Hometown Track, Johnson is now setting his sights on possibly claiming NASCAR Whelen All American Series state and national championships.

Johnson currently leads the NASCAR Whelen All American Series standings in the state of Virginia and is ranked third nationally heading into Saturday night. Johnson trails first-place Keith Rocco in the national title standings by 87 points and he is 56 points behind second-place Craig Preble. Johnson, who has recorded eights wins in 2010 at South Boston Speedway, has a total of 11 triumphs overall for the campaign.

Following Saturday night’s racing action at South Boston Speedway, the remaining NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division events are scheduled for Aug. 14, Aug. 28 and Sept. 4. Twin races are slated for Aug. 28.

A total of six races are scheduled for action Saturday night at South Boston Speedway with the first event slated to get cranked up at 7 p.m. In addition to racing action for the Late Model Stock Car Division and the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races are also scheduled for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

While Johnson has been dominant in the chase for the Late Model Stock Car championship this year, the race for the runner-up position is quite heated. Deac McCaskill and Stacy Puryear are currently deadlocked in a second-place tie. The two are only 25 points ahead of fourth-place Lee Pulliam.

Justin Snow took over the top spot in the Limited Sportsman Division standings last weekend at South Boston Speedway by sweeping wins in two 50-lap events. The two wins, coupled with sixth and fifth-place finishes by Tommy Peregoy, allowed Snow to surge into the lead by four points. Peregoy remains second in the standings, while Danny Willis Jr. is third.

In the chase for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship, Jarrett Milam holds a slim nine-point lead over Joe Allred heading into the twin events this weekend and Darryl Lacks is the points leader in the Southern Vintage Modified standings.

Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 7-12. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
