Scott Adams Extends Point Lead with Win in Victory Lap Late Models at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway; Roop, Arnold and Fletcher get first wins of 2010

Jamaica, VA – It was a case of being at the right place at the right time for Scott Adams of Chester, VA. The current Victory Lap Late Model point leader battled for the lead for much of the first 31 laps of the 35 lap feature. On lap 32 Adams fortuned turned for the better as leader Davis Lipcombe’s car slowed in turn 3 handing the lead over to Adams. On the races final restart Adams pulled away to pick up his first win of 2010.

“You hate to win them that way but we put ourselves in position to be there at the end for the victory, it really feels good to get a win with the caliber of drivers we have here at VMS,” commented Adams in Victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Matt Marshall, Tom Cohick, Matt Morgan and Ben Bowie.

Davis Lipscombe and Tom Cohick led the field to green with Lipscombe leading the first circuit. Stevie Long would get by Lipscombe on lap 2 for the lead and would set a blistering pace. On lap 8 Long’s night would come to an early end with mechanical issues handing the lead over to Lipscombe.

On the restart Lipscombe pulled away and looked almost untouchable. With ten to go Lipscombe had a 10 car length advantage over Adams, but on lap 31 Lipscombe’s night would come to an end as the car came to a stop in turn 3 bringing out the races final caution and handing the lead over to Adams.

On the restart Adams pulled away from Marshall and the rest of the field and cruised to his first win of the season.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Josh Harris and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Galloway taking control and grabbing the lead out of turn 2. On lap 5 Dan Arnold began looking inside Galloway out of turn 2 taking the lead by inches at the line. Over the next two laps Galloway would try to retake the lead but to no avail.

Once out front Arnold worked the track to perfection pulling away to a 5 car length advantage over Galloway and the rest of the field. On lap 18 the battle for fourth heated up between Brian Maxey and Page Harrison. The two traded the spot back and forth over the next four laps before Maxey would take control.

But no one had anything for Arnold in the end as he finally broke his streak of four second place finishes by taking his first victory of 2010 over Bret Hamilton, Brian Maxey, Page Harrison and Tony Quade.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Michael Hayes and Tony Wood led the field to green with Wood taking the lead from the outside. On lap four Michael Roop began applying pressure for the lead. On lap 6 Wood would bring out the races first caution with a spin in turn 3 handing the lead over to Roop.

On the restart Roger Jamerson got inside John Kirby for second and set out to real in the leader. On lap 10 Jamerson began working to the inside of Roop for the lead but Roop was up to the challenge and each time held on to the lead. With laps winding down Roop would pull to a two car length advantage and go on to record his career first victory. Rounding out the top five were Roger Jamerson, John Kirby, Shawn Otey and J.R. Guy.

In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Kevin Fletcher and Danny Martin led the field to green with Fletcher leading the first circuit. It didn’t take long for Fletcher to see a challenge for the lead as on the next lap Ryan Toole looked to his inside out of turn 2 but couldn’t make the pass.

On lap 3 Wesley Givens took over second with Brett Adkins following close behind. On lap 11 Adkins began pressuring Fletcher for the lead. Adkins would work the low groove with Fletcher working the highs side. On lap 16 Adkins would take the lead from Fletcher at the line by inches as the two raced side by side back into turn 1. Fletcher would get back by Adkins and retake the lead back at the line by the slimmest of margins. Adkins made one more attempt to get the lad away from Fletcher and at the white flag the two were door to door. With the crowd on its feet the two raced side by side back to the finish line with Fletcher taking the win by a mere three feet. Rounding out the top five were Brett Adkins, Wesley Givens, Ryan Toole and James Givens.
