South Boston Speedway News
Mother Nature appears ready to cooperate with SoBo racing action this weekend
Jul 22, 2010 - updated Jul 22nd, 2010 12:45pm
Web posted by

South Boston, Va. --

Last weekend, Mother Nature delivered some much needed rain to the South Boston, Va. area, but at the same time, washed out racing action at America’s Hometown Speedway.

If advance weather forecasts are accurate, rain will not be a factor this Saturday, July 24, when South Boston Speedway is slated to return to action with an action-packed night of NASCAR Whelen All American Series races. The first event of the night will get cranked up at 7 p.m.

As has been the case much of the week, the temperature is expected to soar near the century mark during the day Saturday and the evening forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s.

The warm temperatures during the day will certainly set the stage for hot racing action under the lights at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Highlighting the six-race program Saturday will be twin 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Twin races are also scheduled for the competitors in the Limited Sportsman Division.

Rounding out the night of racing will be events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the touring Legendary Flathead Series.

The region’s best NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division drivers will be on hand Saturday night to try and ease the grip defending champion Justin Johnson has had on the competition this year.

Johnson has piled up seven victories at South Boston Speedway in 2010 and leads second-place Deac McCaskill by a whopping 106 points.

While McCaskill still has hopes of closing the gap on Johnson in the chase for the 2010 track championship, he is also keeping an eye on third-place Stacy Puryear, who he leads by only two points, and fourth-place Lee Pulliam, who is only 12 points behind him.

In the battle for the Limited Sportsman Division championship, Tommy Peregoy is currently atop the field and has a 24-point edge over Justin Snow. Danny Willis Jr. is third in the title chase and is only nine points behind Snow.

Jarrett Milam leads the way in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings by 16 points over second-place Joe Allred.

Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday, July 24. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 7-12. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.

For more information visit the track's Web site or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
