Southboston, Va. --

In advance of the Fourth of July holiday, South Boston Speedway will host a special night of racing on Friday, July 2, with the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 200.

The first race of Friday night will get the green flag at 7 p.m. Three lengthy races will be featured as part of the evening, highlighted by a 200-lap event for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. That event will feature the best of the best Late Model Stock Car competitors in the region.

Also scheduled Friday night will be a 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division race and a 50-lap event for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

At the close of the night of racing, the skies over South Boston Speedway will light up with the track’s annual Fireworks Extravaganza. Prior to Friday’s racing action, fans will be able to go trackside to meet and greet their favorite competitors during Fan Appreciation from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

“Our annual race and fireworks show during the Fourth of July holiday weekend is always one we, our fans and our competitors look forward to and this year will be no exception,” South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. “We are looking forward to jumpstarting everyone’s holiday weekend on Friday night with great racing and great fireworks to follow.”

Heading into the Friday night NASACR Whelen Late Model 200, defending division champion Justin Johnson, a seven-time winner at the four-tenths mile oval in 2010, holds a commanding advantage in his bid to claim a second consecutive crown.

Johnson is 108 points ahead of second-place Stacy Puryear, while Deac McCaskill is third, 41 points behind Puryear and only seven ahead of fourth-place Lee Pulliam. David Latour rounds out the top five competitors in the field. He is nine points behind Pulliam.

Tommy Peregoy owns the lead in the Limited Sportsman Division heading into Friday night’s 100-lap race. He is nine points ahead of second-place place Justin Snow. Danny Willis Jr. is third in the title chase. He is 17 points behind Snow.

In the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, Jarrett Milam holds a slim seven-point lead over runner-up Joe Allred. Randy Hupp is third in the standings. He is 24 points behind Allred and only one point ahead of fourth-place Daniel Crews and a mere six ahead of fifth-place Trey Crews.

Practice for all divisions will be held on Friday from 1:45 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 4:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 3:30 p.m.

Advance tickets for adults are available at a cost of $15. Discount tickets will be available through 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 1. Adult admission on the day of the race will be $20. Children, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $10 and children, ages six and under, will be admitted free. Youth discounts are only valid if accompanied by a paying adult.
