Andy Loden Wins PASS Southern Sizzler 150 at OCS
Jun 27, 2010 - updated Jun 27th, 2010 7:17pm
Web posted by Ken Childs

Rougemont, NC. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Andy Loden came into this week’s PASS race at Orange County Speedway having won his last two series races, but had previous OCS PASS winner Preston Peltier, OCS veteran Jay Fogleman and 28 others to beat out to take his third victory in a row.

Jimmy Weller scored the fast time in qualifying, but former ARCA standout Joey Coulter would draw the pole, with Weller being relegated to eighth. The race opened with a 44 lap green-flag run, with Coulter opening up a three-second lead on outside pole-sitter Evan Jackson. As Coulter and Jackson ran into slower traffic, Jackson would close up the gap to just two car lengths before the first of 10 caution flags came out for debris from 2009 South Boston Speedway Late Model runner up David Quackenbush’s machine. After another quick caution for a Spencer Wauters spin gave Evan Jackson the restart he needed, taking the lead on lap 47.

Jackson would hold off Joey Coulter until a lap 75 caution would give Coulter a great restart, with Coulter taking the lead on the outside. The lead would be short-lived, however, as Jackson would take back the lead using the same pass on the outside that Coulter had used on the previous restart.

Coulter’s run would effectively come to an end thanks to a lap 87 spin while battling with Andy Loden, who had slowly worked his way up through the field after starting tenth, the worst he could due to the redraw. Loden would get a great restart, taking the lead on the outside on lap 88.

During the majority of caution flags that came out during the night’s events, Jay Fogleman could be seen on pit road, with his crew changing everything in the car but the driver. The work would pay off in the long run, with Fogleman getting to second place with help from a lap 135 caution thanks to a cut tire by Ryan Moore.

Fogleman had 10 laps running in second place when the caution came out for Tayla Orleans hitting the turn 4 wall on lap 149, giving the field a green-white-checkered finish. Fogleman would get a great restart, but contact with leader Andy Loden would send Fogleman off the wall, falling back in for fourth, while Loden picked up his third win in a row. Justin Wakefield and Joey Gase would slide past Fogleman for second and third, respectively, with John Stancill finishing fifth. Local drivers Alex Fleming and Bradley McCaskill finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

In OCS Limited Sportsman, Jesse Little (son of Chad Little) would be the fast qualifier, but would have to start second thanks to the redraw. Previous race winner Brian Cole would sit on the pole, and lead the first 24 laps while contenders Little, Donald Brace and Timmy Ferrell battled behind him. Jesse Little would slip by Cole on lap 24, and not look back while Cole faltered, spinning on lap 25.

Point leader Justin Newlin started eighth, and would slowly work his way through the field, getting as far as third before Little took the checkered flag. Ferrell would come across second and Newlin third. In post-race inspection, Jesse Little’s tread width was found to be too wide, disqualifying the winner, and giving Timmy Ferrell the win, with Justin Newlin getting credit for second, Donald Brace third, Louis White fourth and Brandon Baker fifth.

Justin Allison won in a caution-marred Allison Legacy event. Throughout the 12 cautions and one red flag in a shortened 70 lap event, Allison fought off attack after attack by Tyler Hill, all while Hunter Devers moved through traffic. At the end, Hill couldn’t get by Allison, and would have to settle for second, with Devers finishing third.

In Legends, Kyle Beattie made his return to Orange County Speedway leading the first six laps before Daniel Hemric would pass him for the lead and not look back to win the night’s 25 lap event. Josh Morris would take second, with Kyle Beattie rallying back for third. Grayson Massey made a high-line pass around Derek Sobel to win the Bandolero 15 lap event, with Walker Yates finishing third.

Racing returns Saturday, July 3 with a Fourth of July weekend celebration at Orange County Speedway. On the night’s schedule are Late Model Stocks, Limited Sportsman, Grand Stocks, Pure Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros and Modifieds, as well as a fireworks exhibition. Tickets are just $10 for adults, $8 for students 11 to 17 with kids 10 and under free. All senior citizens, military personnel and area university employees and students are just $5 with a valid ID. For more information call the speedway at (336) 364-1222 or race to http://www.ocstrack.com.
