After a less-productive-than-hoped-for field trip to South Boston Speedway last Saturday, C.E. Falk slipped from eighth to ninth in the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Top 500. Falk finished 20th and ninth in a pair of 75-lappers.
Meanwhile, Woody Howard, the Late Model winner at Langley on June 12, turned in fourth- and 14th-place outings at SoBo and moved up to 12th in the national rundown.
Other Langley regulars near the top of the rankings include: Wes Falk (27th); Greg Edwards (28th); Danny Edwards Jr. (30th); and, Mark Wertz (65th).
Keith Rocco continues to lead the national title chase. Running asphalt Modifieds at three Connecticut tracks each week, he has piled up 13 wins and 19 top-five finishes in 22 starts.
In the Virginia state standings, Justin Johnson (SoBo), C.E. Falk, Philip Morris (Motor Mile) and Howard maintain the top four positions. Wes Falk, Greg Edwards and Danny Edwards Jr. are seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Wertz checks in at 14th and Dude Gibbs is 18th.

With top-five finishes in the last two races, including a runner-up jaunt last Saturday, Sean Calway finds himself atop the Super Street division standings. He leads Randy Akers by just four points, 202-198. Jamie Sample is third, two behind Akers, and Larry Venable is fourth, two behind Sample. Only 24 points separate first and 10th in the current points rundown.

While his quest for a fourth straight Super Street victory was ruined by mechanical problems on lap 2 of last week's race, Randy Sample employed a combination of luck, skill and determination to nearly nab a top-five finish.
After starting on the pole and leading the opening lap, Sample suddenly fell off the pace and headed to the pits. Following repairs, he was two laps behind the front-runners, but in position for the "Lucky Dog" pass, which he received on two occasions.
Back on the lead lap, just past the halfway mark, Sample charged through the field and salvaged a sixth-place result. He was narrowly edged by John Pereira in a down-to-the-wire tussle for fifth.
Instead of suffering a points calamity, Sample overcame the early setback and actually gained a spot in the standings, moving from sixth to fifth. He trails Calway by only 12.
