CenturyLink Twin 75-lap Late Model Stock Car event on tap Saturday at South Boston Speedway
Jun 15, 2010 - updated Jun 15th, 2010 1:38pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

Southboston, Va. --

The region’s top Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will have two more chances to try and loosen the stranglehold Justin Johnson has had on the competition in 2010 Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

South Boston Speedway will return to action Saturday night with the running of the CenturyLink Twin 75s NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing program. The featured attractions of the evening will be two 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The first of five races Saturday night will get the green flag at 7 p.m. Also scheduled to hit the asphalt at the historic four-tenths mile oval will be the Limited Sportsman Division competitors, the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the competitors in the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Heading into the CenturyLink Twin 75-lap races for the Late Model Stock Car Division competitors Saturday night, Johnson, the defending division champion, has been the dominant performer this season and has opened a lead of 101 points over his closest competitor in the chase for the 2010 championship.

While Johnson has been amassing a comfortable cushion at the top of the Late Model Stock Car Division standings, the battle for second in the championship chase is quite heated.

Nick Smith currently owns the second spot in the standings, but is only two points ahead of third-place Stacy Puryear and only three points ahead of fourth-place Deac McCaskill. Lee Pulliam is fifth in the standings and trails McCaskill by 28 points.

Tommy Peregoy and Justin Snow will continue their battle for the top spot in the Limited Sportsman Division standings Saturday night. Peregoy is the division’s point leader, but by only seven points over Snow. Danny Willis Jr., defending champion Brian Pembelton and Jonathan Bailey round out the top five competitors in the standings.

Jarrett Milam enters Saturday’s event for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with a slim one-point advantage over Joe Allred. Randy Hupp is third in the standings. He is 22 points behind Allred and five ahead of fourth-place Daniel Crews.

Darryl Lacks leads the standings in the Southern Vintage Modifieds title chase. He is 20 points ahead of second-place Donnie Lacks.

Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m.

In observance of Father’s Day, South Boston Speedway is making the CenturyLink Twin 75 race a “Dad’s Night Out” event with $5 admission for all dads.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 7-12. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.

For more information visit the track's Web site or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
