Balluzzo set for 6 races in 1 night Thursday, June 10, 2010

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
at Langley Speedway -

(June 10) - Calling it "the most challenging thing I've ever done in my life, by far," veteran Langley Speedway competitor Shawn Balluzzo will saddle up for all six races this Saturday, June 12, when the track continues its 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Sysco Night.
This week's feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Pepsi Grand Stocks (40 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); Larry King Legal Services Super Trucks (25 laps); and, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice rounds get under way at 2. Time trials begin at 4:30, following the drivers meeting. Pre-race festivities start at 6:50 and the INEX Legends lead off the evening's feature slate at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military personnel (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price.
Advance tickets may be purchased online by clicking on the appropriate link at www.langley-speedway.com or at the Speedway office during regular business hours.

Balluzzo's six-races-in-one-night adventure, dubbed the "Rock Star 265," is a fundraiser to benefit Madison Arnot. The 10-year-old Suffolk, Va., resident has undergone multiple surgeries over the past year as she aggressively battles familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
FAP is an inherited genetic disorder that results in the formation of a multitude of colorectal polyps, which eventually turn cancerous, at an early age.
Through all the surgeries and various treatments, Madison has maintained her winning attitude, earning her the "Rock Star" moniker from her physicians at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, the Norfolk, Va., facility where she has spent more than her share of time.
While the family has health insurance coverage, Madison's medical bills have still mounted to a burdensome degree. After meeting Madison and being apprised of her situation, Balluzzo, who had endured a cancer scare of his own, was motivated to help.
In Saturday's Rock Star 265, Balluzzo will pilot his regular rides in the Late Model and Modified races. For the four remaining events, other drivers and teams are making cars available to him - Mike West's Grand Stock, Adam Florian's UCAR, a Super Truck from the Davis Racing stable and a Legends car from the Little Race Cars shop.
Fans may support the fundraising effort with a set donation or by pledging a certain amount for each lap Balluzzo completes on Saturday night. For pledge forms, stop by the Langley Fan Club booth near the front gate.
Also, to supplement the primary fundraising initiative, there will be an assortment of games and fun activities going on behind the main grandstand area throughout the evening.

During Saturday's program, Langley Speedway's media center will be dedicated in honor of longtime motorsports journalist Al Pearce. Former track promoter Joe Carver and former Late Model and NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series standout Elton Sawyer are among the luminaries slated to be on hand for the ceremony.

With his sweep of last week's Late Model Twin 75s, C.E. Falk has vaulted to eighth place in the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Top 500, drawing attention from the NASCAR PR office. He was featured in the press release that accompanied this week's national and state standings.
Langley Speedway is well-represented in the national rankings with seven drivers in the first 75: C.E. Falk (8th); Greg Edwards (16th); Woody Howard (18th); Danny Edwards Jr. (22nd); Wes Falk (34th); Mark Wertz (61st); and, Dude Gibbs (75th).
In the Virginia state rundown, C.E. Falk leapfrogged Phillip Morris for second place, behind leader Justin Johnson. Greg Edwards is fourth, while Howard and Danny Edwards Jr. are sixth and seventh, respectively. Wes Falk checks in at 11th, Wertz is 14th and Gibbs is 17th.

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, June 19, with Supercuts Night. That evening's feature slate includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds, Pepsi Grand Stocks, Langley Fan Club Super Streets, Rhonnda Claiborne - Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts, Standard Welding Pro Sixes and Virginia Mini Cups.
Upcoming race dates include Cook's Moving Service Night on Saturday, June 26, and Old Point National Bank Night on Friday, July 2. The July 2 program was moved up one day, from Saturday to Friday, to create a workable rain date for the planned fireworks show.
. . .
A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or consult the track's Web site - www.langley-speedway.com.
