Clay Rogers Is The One To Beat On The Track, But It's A Tossup When It Comes To SoBo's Bologna Burgers
Jun 8, 2010 - updated Jun 8th, 2010 9:40pm
Web posted by Elizabeth Kitts

Southboston, Va. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 7, 2010

On the track, drivers consider Clay Rogers the one to beat, as the Mooresville, N.C., native possesses a 110-point lead over Caleb Holman heading into Saturday's USARacing Pro Cup Series Strutmasters.com 250 at South Boston Speedway.

Off the track, however, it's a tossup as to who would be the winner when it comes to eating South Boston's bologna burgers, made famous by NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler in the early 1990s when he consumed a record 16 in one day.

USAR Pro Cup driver John Gibson, a Springfield, Mo., native who's third in the series standings, believes J.P. Morgan would finish first at the concession stand “probably just to show us up”.

Morgan, an Ether, N.C., native, who sits eighth in the USAR Pro Cup points, also was Holman's favorite to win the competition.

“J.P. Morgan, I don’t know why, but it seems like he could really put some away,” the Abingdon, Va., native said.

Morgan agrees that he could probably win the competition even though he's only eaten two at one sitting. However, he cites Matt Lofton, a Roxboro, N.C., native who's 10th in the standings, as being a strong contender for the concession stand honor.

Floyd, Va., driver Jeff Agnew, who sits fourth in the USAR Pro Cup standings, always tries to eat one or two bologna burgers while he's at the 0.400-mile track, because “I love them.”

While the USAR Pro Cup drivers look forward to eating South Boston Speedway's famous bologna burgers, most wait until after the race to indulge.

“I wouldn’t dare eat them before, but if it's a guaranteed win, I would,” Gibson said.

Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year contender Logan Ruffin, a Memphis, Tenn., native, is also a rookie when it comes to experiencing bologna burgers.

“I’ve honestly never had one,” said the 15-year-old Ruffin, who leads the rookie standings and is sixth in the series points.

The bologna burger experience comes in all shapes and sizes. Most drivers prefer to eat them plain, but Rogers likes to dress up his.

“I like them with mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes,” Rogers commented.

No matter how the USAR Pro Cup drivers prefer to eat their bologna burgers, they will have the opportunity to obtain South Boston Speedway's famous food Saturday, June 12. Practice for the Strutmasters.com 250 begins at noon with qualifying set for 4:30 p.m. Fans have the opportunity to meet the USAR Pro Cup drivers at 5:45 p.m. The green flag is scheduled to wave at 8 p.m.

The USAR Pro Cup Series, formerly Hooters Pro Cup, is owned by Interstate Investment Group (IIG) and is based in Concord, N.C. For more information on USARacing, visit www.usarprocup.com.
