South Boston Speedway News
Justin Johnson will continue quest for SoBo and NASCAR national crown Saturday night
May 27, 2010 - updated May 27th, 2010 1:26pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

Justin Johnson is not only dominating the competition at South Boston Speedway, he is also in the thick of a NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship bid.

Johnson, who has five wins in 2010 at South Boston Speedway, will continue his quest for a second straight NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval Saturday evening when America’s Hometown Track hosts the Italian Delight Twin 75’s racing program.

The featured events of the night will be a pair of 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. The first of five races scheduled Saturday evening will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

In addition to opening up a 64-point cushion over his closest competitor in the Late Model Stock Car Division ranks at South Boston Speedway thus far this season, Johnson is currently in first place in the NASCAR Whelen All American standings for the state of Virginia. In addition, Johnson is also in third place in the national championship standings.

In all, Johnson has amassed six victories in 2010 and eight top-five finishes in his 10 starts for the season. That is good for a lead of over 100 points over two-time national champion Philip Morris in the Virginia NASCAR Whelen All American Series point standings.

At present, Johnson trails Keith Rocco of Waterford Speedbowl and Craig Preble of I-80 Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen All-American national championship standings.

Nick Smith, who is second in the South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car standings, is presently fourth in the standings for the state of Virginia.

Both Johnson and Smith, along with many others of the top Late Model Stock Car Division drivers in the region are expected to be in the field Saturday night for the Italian Delight Twin 75’s.

Deac McCaskill and Stacy Puryear are tied for third in the South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division standings. They trail Smith by 25 points. Lee Pulliam is fifth in the standings and is only eight points behind McCaskill and Puryear.

The Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds will also be in action as part of the Italian Delight program Saturday night.

Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Adult admission is $10 with children, ages 7-12, admitted for $5 and children under the age of six admitted free with a paying adult.
