South Boston Speedway News
Former national champion Peyton Sellers will challenge SoBo’s finest Saturday

Southboston, Va. --

“I’m exited. We’ve got a good car and we’re going to give it a shot this weekend and see what happens.”

Peyton Sellers spoke those words Thursday while discussing his return to South Boston Speedway this weekend for the running of the Halifax County Business Appreciation Twin 75 program.

The featured events of the night of racing action, which will begin at 7 p.m., will be twin 75-lap shootouts for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Sellers is quite familiar with the four-tenths mile asphalt oval at South Boston Speedway. The Danville, Va. driver won the 2005 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship at the facility on his way to claiming the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship that season. What Sellers is not familiar with, however, are many of the tough competitors now racing in the Late Model Stock Car Division ranks at America’s Hometown Track.

“We know it won’t be easy,” Sellers said. “The competition at South Boston is always tough and this year is no exception. Those guys are pretty hooked up and they’ve got their act together.”

Sellers had a test session at South Boston Speedway Tuesday and said he was “real happy” with the results.

“I was pleased with everything,” Sellers said of the #83 Steve James owned machine he will pilot Saturday night. “I know if Steve James has anything to do with a race car, it is going to be set up right and it is going to be good equipment. That’s why I agreed to drive for him.”

The 26-year-old Sellers, who is still working on future race dates this season on the NASCAR Nationwide Series, said he would likely compete in some future events this year at South Boston Speedway in James’ racecar as well.

“We are looking at doing several races throughout the season,” Sellers said. “I’m still working on some Nationwide Series stuff, so we will see how it fits into the schedule.

A total of five events are slated as part of Saturday night’s racing action. In addition to the twin NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division races, there will also be events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Legendary Flathead Series.

South Boston Speedway will be honoring all moms Saturday as well. All mothers in attendance will be admitted for the reduced admission price of $5.

Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Adult admission is $10.  Children, ages 7-12, admitted for $5, while children six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
